"Grandpa, I have no regrets. After what happened last time, I know better than ever what I want to do."
"That's good to hear. So, what are you up to now?"
"I'm here to meet with a director; I've written a script."
After listening, Grandpa had no objections. "In the future, when you have time, bring the kids to visit. Your grandmother's health has been declining these past two years."
Li Hao initially wanted to take both grandparents along, but then thought it would be inconvenient. With Grandpa needing security detail whenever he goes out and the situation in Yurou County, it would be even harder for Lin Xiao to manage.
"Alright. Once Lin Xiao's temporary assignment is over in two years, we'll bring you both over."
As Li Hao came down from the building, he saw Lin Xiao with Tian Tian in the yard, picking cucumbers with Grandma. Tian Tian was babbling excitedly, waving her tiny hands.
Li Hao thought to himself that happiness couldn't be better than this.
In the evening, they had made reservations at a private dining restaurant in a garden on the outskirts of the city. Li Hao and Lin Xiao arrived early and strolled hand in hand through the garden.
Lin Xiao spotted a beautiful woman approaching and couldn't help but squeeze Li Hao's hand, whispering, "Li Hao, I see a big star."
Li Hao looked up and led Lin Xiao straight over. "Nan Jia! Yan Ge!" he greeted with a smile. "This is my wife, Lin Xiao."
Lin Xiao followed Li Hao's gaze toward Nan Jia and called out, "Hello!"
Nan Jia smiled back and said, "I've heard so much about you from Li Hao."
Lin Xiao had seen Nan Jia on television before; in person, she was a hundred times more beautiful. The elegant lake-blue gown she wore made her resemble an ancient noblewoman—graceful and dignified.
A few years ago, she starred in the hit drama "Qing Cheng," which told the story of a princess from a fallen kingdom who married into an enemy nation and fell into a tragic romance with its king.
After a brief moment of brilliance, the online community declared that Nan Jia had peaked at the very beginning, with no further roles to look forward to. To Lin Xiao's surprise, she was able to see her in person.
The four of them gathered together, with Li Hao and Fang Shuoyan walking side by side, engaged in conversation. Lin Xiao and Nan Jia leisurely followed behind the two men.
"I heard you're the town mayor now; it must be tough," Lin Xiao remarked.
Nan Jia, who had studied broadcasting and was a gentle soul from Jiangnan, spoke with a clear and melodious voice. "Not at all. You're beautiful yourself," she replied with a smile.
Lin Xiao felt an inexplicable warmth at her words. "You look even more stunning in person than on television. Honestly, you're the most beautiful person I've ever seen."
Nan Jia found Li Hao's wife adorable; she had expected the mayor to be more serious. "No way! You're just as pretty," she said, gazing at Lin Xiao with a cheerful expression.
Flattered by the compliment from such a beauty, Lin Xiao couldn't help but blush. The two women chatted away, growing more familiar with each other.
By the time they reached the private room, Si Ningyuan had already arrived with a few others.
"Sister-in-law, we meet again!" Si Ningyuan exclaimed enthusiastically as he spotted Lin Xiao and approached her.
Li Hao stepped in front of Lin Xiao protectively; he remembered how Si Ningyuan had caused trouble for him at the hotel before.
"Brother, don’t scare Lin Xiao!" Nan Jia scolded Si Ningyuan.
"Brother-in-law, they’re bullying me!" Si Ningyuan cried out dramatically to Fang Shuoyan.
Fang Shuoyan shot him a glance, causing Si Ningyuan to quiet down immediately.
Lin Xiao could see that despite their playful banter, their bond was genuinely strong.
