In the private room he reserved, the guests had yet to arrive. Lin Xiao walked up to him, playfully wrapping her arms around his waist. "I wonder who Li Youyou is going to introduce me to," she mused.
"Does Li Youyou not know you have a boyfriend?" Li Hao replied, hitting the nail on the head.
Lin Xiao recalled the dating advice Li Youyou had shared: men are most afraid of women acting cute. "I told her I have one, but she didn’t believe me." She held him tighter and tilted her head up, adding, "Anyway, you can't be mad at me; this isn't my fault."
"Let go quickly; you're getting more and more reckless. I'll deal with you later tonight," Li Hao said, surprised that Lin Xiao could be so cheeky.
Seeing that it was almost time for class, Lin Xiao stood on her tiptoes and gave him a quick kiss. Li Hao, encouraged by her initiative, wrapped his arms around her and kissed her back.
Suddenly, the door to the private room swung open. Lin Xiao felt awkward and didn't know how to react; she forced herself to stand next to Li Hao, her face flushed with embarrassment.
"This is my undergraduate friend, the fourth one in our group. This is my graduate school friend, the second one. And this is my girlfriend, Lin Xiao," Li Hao introduced them.
Lin Xiao greeted them and quickly slipped away.
"Lin Xiao, your boyfriend just paid for dinner," Li Youyou said as she noticed Lin Xiao's arrival, her curiosity piqued.
Lin Xiao adjusted her documents and replied with an "Oh," thinking that she had only come over to greet them after observing for a while.
"How did you two meet? He looks much older than you. Where does he work?"
Lin Xiao chuckled to herself and decided to share a bit about him. "He works as a civil servant in the county and is six years older than me. I used to work there too." Sometimes she envied Li Youyou for being so innocent at twenty-five or twenty-six, always straightforward in asking what she wanted to know.
"Sister, do you two live apart all the time? What will happen if you have kids in the future?"
Lin Xiao paused for a moment; these were questions she hadn’t considered before. Li Hao had never mentioned them either, leaving her unsure of how to respond.
Noticing that Lin Xiao seemed reluctant to continue the conversation, Li Youyou went back to her work.
By ten o'clock that evening, Lin Xiao finished up her tasks and found Li Hao waiting for her by the car.
"Did you not drink?" Lin Xiao asked, noticing that he was driving himself.
"You just criticized me this morning; how could I dare to drink?" Li Hao replied, holding her icy hand.
Lin Xiao chuckled softly, "You're so obedient. How do they let you get away with that?"
They had indeed been urging him to drink, but he recalled a young man at the table earlier who mentioned he was trying to conceive, and after that, no one pressed him further. He decided to use the same tactic today, and it worked wonders. However, he didn’t share this with Lin Xiao for fear of putting pressure on her.
That evening, since Li Hao hadn’t drunk or smoked, he insisted that Lin Xiao reward him. She felt happy inside; he had taken her words to heart, and by the end of the night, they were still going strong until midnight.
By the time Lin Xiao was pulled into the bathtub, she was already so exhausted that her legs were trembling. Li Hao had to go to the county tomorrow and wanted to make up for the remaining days all in one go.
Just before falling asleep, Li Hao remembered what his second brother had said: Lin Xiao resembled someone.
In the past, when Lin Xiao was in front of him, she rarely smiled and didn’t seem much like that person. But now, she truly resembled her more and more.
When Lin Xiao worked as a secretary, she dressed more formally and focused on her tasks. However, in her casual attire during leisure time, she bore a striking resemblance—about seventy percent—to that person.
Could it really be true what his second brother said? That a man's long-lasting affection takes on a certain type?
