This time, Li Hao took her to a hot spring resort. The gentle breeze of March had chased away the chill of winter, and the evening wind rustled the willows, bringing a hint of coolness.
When Lin Xiao saw the name of the hotel, she felt a twinge of annoyance. What did he mean by this? She kept her guard up around him. In reality, Li Hao didn’t have any ulterior motives; he simply wanted to enjoy the hot springs and thought it would be nice to bring her along. Late March was indeed the perfect season for soaking in hot springs, and after a good soak, a massage would wash away all the fatigue of the day.
The hot spring water here was pure geothermal water, with few people around and excellent service. He used to come here often when he was alone. While soaking in the hot springs, Lin Xiao realized she had been overthinking things. The facility had separate areas for men and women, so there was no need to worry about being too open with him; besides, everyone wore swimsuits in the women’s area.
After finishing her soak, a female technician entered and asked her to remove her top for an oil massage. Lin Xiao declined, asking if there was an option for a clothed massage instead.
“Miss, your package includes an oil back massage, which is significantly more expensive than a regular one,” the technician explained patiently.
“Can I switch to a regular massage?” Lin Xiao asked. Noticing that the technician seemed about to say something else, she added, “Please check with your manager.”
The technician stepped out briefly before returning and led Lin Xiao to a regular massage room. The environment wasn’t as luxurious as the oil massage area, but it was still nice.
Lin Xiao enjoyed the massage so much that she fell asleep during the hour and a half session. When the therapist noticed she was asleep, they quietly finished up and closed the door behind them as they left.
It wasn’t until Li Hao came in to call her that Lin Xiao finally woke up.
“Tired?” Li Hao asked as he noticed her sleepy eyes. “How about we stay here tonight? I can take you to school early in the morning.”
Lin Xiao jolted awake at his suggestion and quickly refused. “No, let’s go back.”
She thought about how staying meant facing accommodation issues; she hadn’t considered sleeping with him so soon.
Li Hao didn’t press her further. They tidied up and headed back to the city.
“Why don’t you stay at my place tonight?” Li Hao suggested, thinking that his home was near Xiangtian University, making it easier for her than taking the subway all the way.
“No, just drop me off at the university city subway station. It’s more convenient for me to take the subway back,” Lin Xiao replied, noting that her home was quite far from the city center and didn’t want him to take a longer route just to drop her off.
“Lin Xiao, you don’t have to be so guarded around me,” Li Hao said as he glanced at her. “Am I forcing you?”
Lin Xiao felt a bit awkward at his straightforwardness and weakly defended herself. “That’s not it; I just don’t want to trouble you.”
“There’s a guest room at my place; you can stay there tonight. It’s rare to have a weekend where you can sleep in,” Li Hao said pragmatically, believing that solving problems was more important than creating them.
If Lin Xiao continued to refuse, it would only make her seem pretentious.
This was Lin Xiao's first time entering Li Hao's home. When she worked as his assistant, she and Xiao Wang would wait for him in the underground garage.
The house was spacious, with a large living room decorated in cool tones and a high level of automation, perfectly matching his style.
Li Hao was considerate enough to give her a tour of the entire house. There were two south-facing bedrooms, a guest room, a study, and three bathrooms.
"I'll stay in this room, and you can take this one. The pillowcases are in the closet; you can sort it out yourself," Li Hao said, leading her to an unoccupied bedroom on the south side. This bedroom had its own bathroom, complete with a toilet and shower.
"Goodnight," Li Hao said as he turned to leave.
Lin Xiao could tell that her defensiveness was bothering him, and she realized that perhaps she had been overly cautious. Whether it was inviting her to soak in the hot springs or asking her to stay here, he didn't seem to have any ulterior motives.
As Li Hao turned to walk out, Lin Xiao inexplicably reached out and grabbed his hand.
"What's wrong?" Li Hao asked, surprised by her sudden gesture.
Lin Xiao quickly released his hand, standing there feeling a bit anxious and shy, her cheeks flushed.
Li Hao seemed to understand her feelings; he stepped forward and gently wrapped his arms around her. Seeing that she didn't resist, he leaned down and gave her a light kiss.
"Goodnight. Get some rest," Li Hao said, patting her back before stepping out.
Both Li Hao and Lin Xiao slept soundly through the night.
