Lin Xiao didn't want to introduce Li Hao to Du Mu, nor did she want to introduce Du Mu to Li Hao, but she found herself making a simple introduction anyway.
"Mom, this is my leader. Thanks to him today," Lin Xiao said as she opened the front passenger door, bent down to adjust the seat back a bit, and softly said, "Li Shuji, please sit in the front."
She arranged Lin Mu in the far left of the back seat, with herself in the middle and Lin Xiao on the far right.

Lin Xiao couldn’t find the words to describe her feelings; she wished she could just disappear into a hole. "Mom, please stop talking. The driver needs to focus; otherwise, we might get into an accident and hurt me."
Lin Mu fell silent; nothing was more precious than her son's life.
Li Hao sat in the front, feeling both amused and helpless. He couldn't fathom how Lin Xiao could have such a mother. He always thought that someone who could raise such an outstanding daughter couldn't possibly be like this.
Life's hardships weigh heavily on ordinary people in this world. That year, when her father passed away, Lin Xiao was young—only a child—while Lin Mu had to raise two kids alone. A widow faced many challenges; without a bit of toughness, life would be unbearable.
Lin Xiao understood this point and sympathized with her mother, even if she didn’t fully agree with her methods.
When they arrived at Xing Hong Yi Pin, the three of them got out of the car just past ten o'clock; it was New Year's Eve.

Back home, Lin Xiao closed the door and lay on her bed in a starfish position, overwhelmed by feelings of frustration. She felt she had let her sister down by making her so upset today and causing her embarrassment in front of her leader.
She knocked on the door and walked straight in. "Brother, I was wrong to hit you today. I'm really sorry."
Lin Xiao suddenly stood by the bed and looked at his sister. "Lin Xiao, tell me why you’re apologizing? What did you do wrong?"
Lin Xiao didn’t expect her obedient brother to respond so fiercely with questions.

Both of them buried their grievances deep inside, trying to make each other feel better.
On New Year's Eve morning, Lin Xiao took stock of the cash at home. He checked how much was left on his card and how much spare change Lin Mu had.
Lin Xiao mentioned that he had contacted the Game Company; they were already on holiday, and no one was available to review his game, so the boss wouldn't pay him. The advance payment for this game was supposed to come yesterday.
Last night, Lin Mu's snoring started again. She hugged her blanket and went to the living room, wondering what to do next.
