"Officer, how should we handle this situation?" Lin Xiao struggled to maintain her composure.
A fracture is a serious issue. If the judiciary determines it to be a minor injury, it could lead to a lighter sentence. A junior officer glanced at Lin Xiao, noticing she was just a girl from a modest background. Since the other party was willing to settle privately, offering them ten thousand yuan and signing a settlement agreement could prevent criminal charges from being pursued.
"But what about my brother's code?" Lin Xiao pressed on.
"That's not something our precinct can handle. We don't have the expertise to determine whose it is," the officer replied.
"Officer, I don't have that much money. Besides, we're victims too!" Lin Xiao exclaimed, revealing that her bank card only had a small amount left, which was meant for their family's living expenses.
"Then we can only detain your brother for now," the officer stated flatly.
Lin Xiao attempted to reason with the police again, but they ignored her completely. "Officer, could you negotiate with the other party? I really only have that much," she pleaded again after taking a moment to calm down. "Please talk to the internet café owner; my brother is still young."
The junior officer's attitude worsened. Dealing with such matters during busy hours was frustrating for them. "Your brother is still in school; your family shouldn't be ruined over this. Accept their terms and settle; it's better for everyone."
Lin Xiao turned to her brother, "Do you have any money left in your card? Lend it to me."
"Sis, I won't settle! I'd rather go to jail than agree to this. That code can sell for a hundred thousand yuan! He stole my code and now wants money from me—where's the justice in that?" Lin Xiao's stubbornness flared up.
If he sold the code, he would have to pay up afterward. If he couldn't provide the game code, he would face compensation claims as well.
"Lin Xiao, let's just pay them off first. You get out, and then we can sue in court; we will definitely get that code back," she insisted, determined not to let her brother end up with a criminal record.
Lin Mu stood nearby, crying and scolding Lin Xiao. "I told you we should go back home! Your brother wouldn't have gotten into this mess!"

Zhao Chenghua, yes, Zhao. After filtering through the candidates, she was the only one with money and potential.
"Senior Sister, take care," Lin Xiao mustered the courage to say.
"Xiao Lin, is something wrong?" Zhao Chenghua, unaware that Lin Xiao had rejected Li Hao, spoke to her with unusual tenderness.
"My family is going through some trouble. Could you lend me some money?" Lin Xiao struggled to control her emotions, her voice tinged with a hint of tears as she pleaded.
"Do you want cash or a transfer?" Zhao Chenghua replied readily. She wasn't short on money; lending it to Lin Xiao would be a way to save face for Li Hao. "Does Li Hao know about your family's situation?"
Lin Xiao's heart sank. She thought to herself that Zhao Chenghua's willingness to lend her money meant there was a misunderstanding about her relationship with Li Hao. But at this moment, what pride could a poor person have? "I'll come by your place to get it; I can give you an IOU."
"Where are you? I'll have someone deliver it to you," Zhao Chenghua guessed that Lin Xiao was trying to change the subject and suspected that Li Hao was unaware of the situation.
After hanging up, Zhao Chenghua immediately called Li Hao, teasing him, "Your little girlfriend's family is in trouble. Are you going to play the hero and save her?"
The only person who could be referred to as his girlfriend by his senior sister was Lin Xiao.
Li Hao recalled how he had forgotten about this matter after Lin Xiao had rejected him. What kind of trouble was her family in?
He didn't ask; she was currently at Yunquan Police Station asking for money. Should he go deliver it?
