After a long day of turmoil, the sky gradually darkened. The two of them left the residence of Min and quickly rode to the western wall of Hong Taiji's palace. Yuan Yueming was familiar with the layout of the palace courtyard, as she often visited to play with Hao Ge and others. She knew that the prison where Hong Taiji held prisoners was located on the west side of the palace. They secured their horses in a grove outside the western wall and watched as a patrol of guards passed by. Lin Ning took Yuan Yueming's hand and leaped up onto the city wall, then silently jumped into the palace.
Yuan Yueming led the way, with Lin Ning closely following her. They navigated around the patrolling guards, and after about fifteen minutes, they finally arrived at the prison. There were eight guards stationed at the entrance, and the leading officer recognized Yuan Yueming. He said to her, "Princess of the County, are you here to see the Young Prince?"
Yuan Yueming nodded and replied, "Indeed, please open the prison door; I want to see Ama." The officer asked, "May I ask if you have a decree from the Great Khan?"
Yuan Yueming responded, "The decree is here; you should take a good look." As she spoke, she pretended to reach into her chest pocket for the decree but suddenly her expression darkened. With a swift motion, she struck the officer's chest with her palm. The officer had been focused on expecting her to produce Hong Taiji's decree and was completely unprepared for her attack. Just as he felt pain in his chest and was about to cry out, Lin Ning quickly reached out and pressed on his mute point.
The other seven guards noticed something was wrong and were about to draw their swords when Lin Ning wouldn’t give them a chance. He swept his right foot in a low kick, easily knocking them all to the ground before he pressed their mute points as well. Lin Ning then removed their belts and securely bound their hands behind their backs. After searching the officer, they found the key to the prison door and successfully entered.
The damp and cold prison was filthy and reeked of decay. Each cell had an oil lamp casting a dim light. The two of them wandered through the prison until they finally found Min at the end of one corridor. Min sat in a corner on a pile of straw with disheveled hair, his gaze vacant. When he saw two figures approaching, he quickly jumped up and rushed to the iron bars, gripping them tightly with both hands. The murky light made Lin Ning and Yuan Yueming’s shadows flicker uncertainly.
Yuan Yueming walked ahead with piercing eyes fixed on Min. When Min recognized Yuan Yueming’s delicate yet furious face, he exclaimed joyfully, "Yue Ming! Ama is here; please save Ama!"
Yuan Yueming's eyes blazed with fury as she slowly approached Min without uttering a word. Suddenly, she raised her right hand and struck Min's cheeks back and forth until they were swollen like a pig's head. If it weren't for the iron bars between them, those heavy slaps would have left Min searching for his teeth on the ground.
Min endured the burning pain in his cheeks and cried out in fear, "Yue Ming, what are you doing? What’s wrong with you? I am your Ama! Don’t you recognize me?"
"Spit!" A mouthful of Yuan Yueming’s anger landed squarely on Min’s face before he could react in shock. She scolded him fiercely, "You despicable old villain! You caused my parents' deaths and destroyed my Yuan family! You want me to be your daughter? I wish I could kill you right now!"
Hearing Yuan Yueming's words made Min's body go limp as he collapsed onto the floor of his cell. He had not expected that she already knew about his true identity. He thought she had come to rescue him but realized instead that she had come to settle accounts.
Still unwilling to give up hope while sitting on the ground, Min knelt there with one hand gripping the iron bars tightly while reaching out toward Yuan Yueming with his other hand pleading for help: "Yue Ming, let Ama explain! I didn’t kill your parents; it was that treacherous Yang Yan! You must plead with Great Khan to release me! Once I’m out, I will definitely kill Yang Yan to avenge your parents! Great Khan appreciates you very much and wants to betroth you to Hao Ge; he will listen to your words! Only you can save Ama now!"
Min had two motives behind his words: one was to make Yuan Yueming not hold a grudge against him by shifting all blame onto Yang Yan; the other was hoping that she would plead for his release from Hong Taiji. He believed that she would agree since every girl would want to marry Hao Ge for wealth and power.
However, hearing his words only fueled Yuan Yueming’s rage further. With all her strength, she kicked Min hard in the chest, sending him crashing to the ground before drawing her sword ready to strike him down.
