In only a few cases can the quantity of units be obtained. It is worth noting that this initial Iron Block differs from Coal, as it relates to the iron material requirements in the later refining process. Coal can be combined into Coal Blocks on the Crafting Table, which is almost instantaneous. Therefore, even with the massive amount of Coal here, Yun Yi has no worries. In just a moment, all the Coal can be transformed into Coal Blocks.
However, the situation with Rough Iron Blocks is different; they must first be smelted in a Furnace before they can become Iron Ingots. Although the smelting speed is not slow, completing a batch every ten minutes, the sheer number of Rough Iron Blocks—over a hundred thousand—means that processing them one by one will take considerable time, roughly four days to finish everything. This is far too long for Yun Yi, who does not have ample time.
Thus, Yun Yi decides to adopt a more efficient method by crafting a large number of Furnaces to create an assembly line for smelting. In this underground cave, the supply of Round Stones is abundant. Earlier, while mining, he collected tens of thousands of Round Stones. Now, he only needs to take a casual look around to easily fill his backpack.
Next, he sets up a Crafting Table and begins to craft Furnaces using Round Stones. One after another, he ultimately crafts three hundred Furnaces, densely spread across the ground. Even though he still has the capacity to create more, this is already sufficient.
With three hundred Furnaces operating simultaneously, their efficiency is astonishing. Afterward, Yun Yi collects all the Coal and combines it into Coal Blocks, placing these Coal Blocks into each Furnace. He then hurriedly runs around gathering the scattered Rough Iron Blocks and feeds them into the Furnaces.
As the Coal Blocks ignite, flames gradually rise within the Furnaces. The light produced by over three hundred burning Furnaces nearly illuminates the entire underground mine; however, due to the nature of Furnaces, they emit light without generating heat, preventing excessive warmth in this area from becoming another giant Furnace.
During the waiting period for smelting, Yun Yi calls upon his Pet Dog and retrieves some boxes and Rope from it. He securely fastens several large boxes onto the dog's back. After about ten minutes of smelting, all the Rough Iron Blocks are transformed into Iron Ingots.
At this moment, Yun Yi had additionally strapped twenty yellow boxes onto his canine friend. Although this dog was not particularly large, its back was spacious enough to accommodate a box. This was partly due to the relatively small size of the boxes; if it were a Wooden Barrel, it would have been much less feasible.
It is worth noting that in My World, Wooden Barrels are also an effective storage method. Compared to the eight wooden planks required to craft a box, only seven basic items are needed to make a Wooden Barrel, which includes two Wooden Steps and six wooden sticks. Each Wooden Barrel can be crafted with just four wooden planks, equivalent to one whole log, thus saving about half the materials compared to making a box.
However, Wooden Barrels and boxes are equivalent in storage capacity; both provide grid space. Yet, Wooden Barrels have two significant drawbacks: they are bulkier and heavier. The actual size of a single barrel is not comparable to that of a box, as it measures one meter in length, width, and height, while the dimensions of a wooden box are seventy centimeters in each of these measurements. Additionally, a wooden box weighs about twenty pounds.
In reality, the carrying capacity of medium to large dogs is approximately one hundred pounds. But what about this group of dogs evolved from wolves? Their load-bearing capacity far exceeds two hundred pounds. Therefore, for them, carrying a ten-pound box is merely a trivial task.
However, the situation is different for barrels; a single barrel weighs nearly two hundred pounds. Not to mention ordinary dogs—even these evolved canines would find it challenging. Thus, while barrels serve as decent storage tools, when it comes to moving and transportation, boxes are clearly the better choice.
