What mattered most was that the clerical script was quite similar to the traditional Chinese characters that followed, allowing Yun Xiao Yi to effortlessly understand the writing of others. This was indeed a reassuring answer. How did I end up in the Han Dynasty? I had no idea whether I was in the Western Han or Eastern Han period.
In truth, there was no need to overthink it. Such a simple question was one that Yun Xiao Yi would never foolishly ask. The terms Eastern Han and Western Han were merely labels created by later scholars for convenience in distinguishing between two historical periods of the Han Dynasty. For the people of the Han Dynasty, their nation had no distinction between east and west; it was simply the magnificent Great Han Empire.
However, one could infer the specific time period through the calendar year. Thus, Yun Xiao Yi drew the character for "year" in traditional form on the ground. The hunter beside him seemed to understand his intention and wrote down "Guanghe Five Years."
Yun Xiao Yi quickly searched his memory for information regarding that year. Suddenly, he slapped his thigh—wasn't this during the Eastern Han Dynasty? The following year would see Tian Jiangjun Zhang Jiao proclaiming that Heaven had perished and Huang Tian should rise, with the year being Jia Zi, heralding great fortune for the world.
As for whether that missionary master truly possessed magical powers, who could say? What followed was an era filled with heroes vying for control during the Three Kingdoms period. Figures like Lu Bu, Changshan Zhao Zilong, the valiant Huang Zhong, the ancient warrior Dian Wei, the courageous Ma Chao, and the cunning Cao Cao, along with the Martial Saint Guan Yu, each wrote their own glorious chapters in that chaotic time.
Recalling my childhood days when I used to collect Three Kingdoms Hero Cards that came with instant noodles, those little snacks were brought home in bags and batches. I spent all my pocket money on box after box of instant noodles just to gather those legendary heroic figures' cards that filled my heart with excitement.
Unfortunately, there are always some cards that can never be fully collected, no matter what. Later, I realized that perhaps those missing cards were never produced in the first place. I never expected to actually travel back to the legendary era of the Three Kingdoms, experiencing firsthand this tumultuous and grand period.
Most importantly, I found myself possessing a powerful ability akin to a cheat code. This was indeed an incredibly strong skill; unless one truly had three heads and six arms or a deity descended from the heavens, no one could rival someone with such capabilities as Yun Xiao Yi. Not to mention the various weapons and equipment that had been specially enhanced.
Even if it came down to a confrontation, Yun Xiao Yi could simply utilize rapid construction techniques to quickly build a completely sealed small house using blocks, rendering any warrior unable to unleash their martial prowess. Could even Lu Bu, renowned for his bravery and combat skills, break through solid stone with his bare hands? And even if Guan Yu had the strength to lift a cauldron, could he cleave through rock as hard as iron?
This was the ancient world, not a mythical age where gods roamed freely. If one truly entered such an absurd version of the Three Kingdoms, everything mentioned above would merely become a joke.
Yun Xiao Yi then wrote "Yun Xiao Yi" on the ground and pointed at himself before writing his name again. He silently indicated himself and then wrote "Zhao Yun" beside it, pointing at the young hunter again and writing "Zhao Yang."
Zhao Yun?! Wait a minute, could he really be the Zhao Zilong from Changshan that I know? Yun Xiao Yi struggled to contain his inner excitement and simply wrote a question mark on the ground.
After a moment of contemplation, Zhao Yun responded with words indicating "to the east of Changshan County, Zhengding County, Taihang Mountain." Changshan, Zhengding, Zhao Yun?! Wasn't this like hitting the jackpot?
He gazed at the young man before him; although he was tall and imposing with an air of heroism about him, his face was still youthful and lacked the seasoned look of the Zhao Yun who would later serve loyally in Shu Han.
However, he quickly regained his senses.
In the year 188 of the Eastern Han Dynasty, men in ancient times typically did not receive their names until they underwent the capping ceremony at the age of ten. Therefore, Zhao Yun had not yet been given the name Zhao Zilong. This made it easier to persuade the young Zhao Yun to join his side. It was better to bring Zhao Yun into his camp early on, rather than see him serve Liu Bei in the future without ever being truly utilized.
Zhao Yun was both skilled in martial arts and loyal to his lord. He had saved the descendants of his lord on two occasions; during the battle at Han River, he bravely faced strong enemies and repeatedly rescued the army from peril. His achievements were remarkable, yet until Liu Bei expressed his gratitude with his life, Zhao Yun's title was merely that of a minor general.
The posthumous honors bestowed upon Zhao Yun ranked him lower among the heroes, and his posthumous name seemed to indicate a lack of high regard for his contributions. This was clearly a slight against him. The reason for this might stem from Zhao Yun's humble origins and lack of a prominent background.
Relying solely on his bravery and wisdom in an era dominated by powerful families that selected talents based on their lineage meant that lacking a background was a lifelong misfortune. In the world of martial arts, influence and connections were indispensable. Could one fight? What good would that do? During the Eastern Han Dynasty, heroes emerged in droves, and there were countless skilled martial artists. Without support from a noble family, standing out was an arduous challenge.
