John knew who the commander of the thousand-man team was; it was one of his personal guards. Despite the positions in the military being sold off, they were merely nominal roles, and the real orders still came from John’s own subordinates.
"Organize the battlefield and follow me forward," he commanded.
"Yes!"
This troop finally had a backbone, and John had finally bid farewell to the lifestyle of a savage, rediscovering a sense of nobility.
Indeed! If one wanted to truly experience the feeling of being superior and above others, there had to be someone to serve them like cattle or horses. If these cattle and horses could not reproduce, then the concept of superiority would be meaningless! Therefore, once he returned to his territory, he must strongly encourage the farmers under him to increase their birth rates, especially aiming for three or four children per family. It was essential to ensure population growth.
In the following days, John led his newly gathered subordinates through this mysterious land. He had to admit that this secret realm was vast and boundless! They had been walking for over ten days without seeing any boundaries. Surprisingly, as their journey progressed, the number of people around John grew increasingly larger. By now, he had amassed around four thousand followers, including over three hundred soldiers from his original Salted Fish Territory.
With so many people, food supply naturally became John's primary concern. Each day, he either led them out hunting for food or raided other soldiers for rations to sustain themselves.
Fortunately, this secret realm was not lacking in various mushrooms and game to hunt. Even more surprisingly, John stumbled upon a large patch of wild sweet potatoes. Given the current situation, these food resources should sustain them for a while longer.
"Congratulations on surviving the first wave of attacks! Now, we will distribute your deserved rewards." As these words echoed in the air, it felt as if the entire world trembled. Suddenly, a deafening roar resounded, and everyone looked up to see brilliant streaks of light cutting across the sky like a meteor shower.
John focused intently on the nearest falling star; it trailed a long tail of flame as it plummeted towards a specific direction. Without hesitation, John sprinted towards where the star was falling.
He dashed through dense forests and rugged mountain paths at breakneck speed, covering several miles in one breath. Finally, in an open field, he spotted the fallen object—a round, crystal-clear gem lying quietly on the ground.
Cautiously approaching, John bent down and gently picked up the crystal. The moment he touched it, a powerful surge of information flooded into his mind like a tidal wave. He closed his eyes and struggled to process this sudden influx of knowledge. After a moment, when he opened his eyes again, surprise lit up his face.
This crystal resembled a mini-map from a game; it clearly displayed various creatures within a hundred-mile radius. However, what puzzled John was that while he could sense these creatures' presence, he could not identify their types.
At that moment, John began to realize that this so-called reward distribution was actually a form of coercion. The crystals that had fallen from the sky numbered in the dozens, indicating that more people would receive tools capable of detecting surrounding creatures. Inevitably, conflicts and struggles would arise among people since everyone would want to acquire more resources for survival.
Thinking about this made John feel a surge of anger and helplessness. He felt like a monkey being toyed with by others—manipulated without any power to fight back.
