As evening fell, the setting sun cast a blood-red hue over the entire camp, enveloping it in a soft glow. Amidst the bustling and chaotic military encampment, John sat alone at a simple wooden table, savoring the dinner distributed to him. He held a steaming bowl of thick soup, containing tender pieces of meat and various vegetables, releasing an enticing aroma. Occasionally, he would lift a small bottle of wine from the side and take a gentle sip of the spicy, rich drink, allowing the warmth of the alcohol to spread through his throat.
At that moment, a cacophony of footsteps approached from afar. John looked up to see three figures swaying as they made their way toward his tent. As they drew closer, he recognized them as his three roommates.
The trio was clad in well-tailored noble warrior attire, made from high-quality fabric adorned with exquisite patterns that highlighted their noble status. Each wore a beautifully decorated sword at their waist, its hilt embedded with sparkling gemstones that glimmered brightly.
Upon entering the tent, a strong scent of alcohol hit John’s senses. A closer sniff revealed it to be whiskey. The three men had clearly consumed quite a bit of drink; their steps were unsteady as they leaned on each other for support to remain upright.
Leading the group was a middle-aged man with a flushed face and dazed eyes. Upon seeing John, he forced a smile and pointed at him with a finger, cheerfully greeting him: “Hey there, brother! You look like you’re new here!”
The two middle-aged men following behind echoed his sentiment with laughter, chiming in: “Yes, yes! Welcome to our big family!”
Their demeanor was friendly, devoid of any arrogance or disdain. As seasoned nobles, they understood that without knowing someone’s background, there was no need to offend an unfamiliar noble over trivial matters. If John were merely an ordinary Baron, perhaps their attitude would differ. But for now, everything remained uncertain; thus, maintaining basic courtesy and respect was the wisest choice.
Just like the earlier encounter with Will, who had acted so arrogantly simply because he believed John was just an ordinary Baron. If John truly were just an ordinary Baron standing here now, these three might have looked down on him or even mocked him. However, at this moment, such a situation had not arisen; everyone began to familiarize themselves with one another in a friendly and harmonious atmosphere.
“I’m Guczi Earl, Transcendent Knight.”
“Hello, I’m Prada, Transcendent Knight.”
“Hi there! I’m Rolex Viscount, also an Transcendent Knight.”
The three introduced themselves in turn. Though their words were few, the tone conveyed an unmistakable message: they were not ordinary individuals; they were distinguished Viscounts! Given that John did not share the same rank as them, gaining their friendship would likely prove challenging.
