John didn't even open his eyes; he simply said, "You eat it yourself. No using my pot."
Kuiradi wanted to ask why, but before he could speak, he thought about it. That water might not look contaminated at first glance, but how long had that fish been soaking? The thought of eating it made him shudder.
"I'm not eating it, no way," Kuiradi shook his head repeatedly.
"That's right. Don't disturb me until the treasure is found."
John had no intention of eating fish that had been through such filth; he was worried about the high levels of E. coli.
The next morning, under the brilliant sunlight, the already murky surface of the lake began to visibly recede. The water, which wasn't very deep to begin with, now completely revealed its bottom.
Aside from a few small puddles remaining in the center of the lake, almost all the water in this oasis had been drained away.
John hurriedly led his group down the slope toward the dried lakebed and began searching the barren land for so-called treasures. However, to their dismay, despite their diligent efforts, they found nothing that could truly be called a treasure. Instead, they discovered plenty of broken and dilapidated items.
For instance, there were ancient weapons from an unknown era that looked utterly decayed; with just a little force, they would crumble like fragile cookies. There were also copper coins and silver coins from a bygone age, covered in thick rust and barely recognizable. Additionally, they found some tattered rags and rotting pieces of wood.
John stood up and raised his hand to shield his eyes from the glaring sunlight. After being exposed to such bright light for a long time, he found it difficult to fully open his eyes and could only squint through a narrow slit as he scanned his surroundings.
"Could it be that my profession template has malfunctioned? This shouldn't be happening; I've never encountered any issues before!" John muttered to himself, filled with confusion and doubt.
Nevertheless, he refused to give up easily. His sharp eyes continued to scan in all directions as he pondered: since nothing valuable was found at the lakebed, perhaps those treasures were hidden in some corner by the water's edge. No matter what, I absolutely cannot believe that my relied-upon profession template has failed!
At that moment, a solitary dead tree in the distance caught John's attention. His gaze was instantly drawn to it and fixed there. The dead tree stood by the lake's edge; its lower half should have been submerged in water, but now it was exposed due to the drop in water level.
At first glance at the base of the dead tree, John didn't notice anything unusual. However, as he approached for a closer look, an astonishing discovery left him speechless: beneath the dead tree was not ordinary soil but a massive rock! Even more surprising was that there were almost no visible roots on this dead tree; it seemed as if a bare trunk had been casually placed there as some sort of decoration.
A strong curiosity surged within John. Without hesitation, he took large strides toward the dead tree. As he walked through the mud that splashed up around him, nothing could impede his progress. Soon enough, he arrived beside the dead tree. The loyal soldiers following closely behind noticed their leader seemed to have made a discovery and quickly gathered around him.
Among them, Kuiradi was the quickest; he rushed to John's side and asked with concern, "My lord, what happened?"
John didn't answer immediately but pointed toward the massive rock, signaling everyone to take a look together. The group's gazes followed his finger and focused on what was supposedly a stone. At first, they couldn't determine what it was exactly, but as they stared longer, they gradually began to think that this stone looked more and more like an iron door. However, due to years of erosion and exposure to wind and rain, thick rust had covered the door; from afar, it indeed appeared to be just an ordinary rock.
