"This crumbling castle is nothing compared to my knight's territory," John scoffed as he surveyed the dilapidated fortress.
Redman, however, did not share his disdain. To him, this place was a treasure. After all, he was not a single man; he had a wife and children back in the White Family territory. If they could capture this stronghold, it would be something to leave for his son.
At that moment, he found it difficult to voice his thoughts. The successful conquest of this castle had little to do with him. All he could do was hope to secure a small piece of land for himself in the end.
According to their strategy, he and John planned to launch a surprise attack to eliminate the two central factions. This would allow them to easily divide the remaining two among themselves. With this approach, conflicts between them would be avoided. As for the indecisive factions, they could simply use incentives to forge alliances, thus stabilizing the entire situation.
However, things rarely unfolded as anticipated.
"Brother! Let's leave this castle for now and just station a few soldiers here. While the enemy is still disoriented, we should seize the opportunity and capture another piece of land!" John exclaimed, eager and ready for action. He had prepared himself for another raid. In such surprise operations, speed was crucial; any delay could alert the other three factions and complicate matters.
In response to John's proposal, Redman kept his thoughts to himself. Despite maintaining their titles—John as the elder brother—after numerous collaborations, he understood that the balance of power had shifted between them.
Perhaps it was due to their last engagement or this current campaign that had brought about this change. In any case, moving forward, many decisions would likely rest on his younger brother's shoulders.
"Look at you, little brother. From now on, I’ll rely on you," Redman said.
Hearing Redman's words, John nodded without hesitation. For him, this arrangement felt right; their strengths were too disparate for Redman to always lead without risking their relationship. Now that Redman acknowledged this shift, John wouldn’t forget their brotherly bond.
"Don’t worry, brother; you will always be my elder brother. Let’s head out to the next target: Deer Territory."
As they spoke, their relationship grew even closer, and any lingering tension from before vanished in an instant. On their way to attack, John began discussing the castle he had just repaired and his fourteen children.
