He turned away without looking back, leading his team forward. The thirteen Wandering Knights stood there, staring blankly at his retreating figure, unable to move for a long time.
"Boss, did we fail again this time?" a small-framed Wandering Knight asked dejectedly.
The leader of the Wandering Knights, Gervas, gazed vacantly ahead, murmuring to himself, "I suppose so." His heart was filled with confusion and helplessness as he struggled to understand the misfortune that had befallen his team.
Recently, every time they managed to save up a little money, they would inexplicably encounter some seemingly harmless convoy that turned out to be a trap.
Recalling their last experience still sent shivers down Gervas's spine. They had mistakenly intercepted what appeared to be an ordinary convoy, only to discover that it was carrying Grins, a relative of Marquis Duvas! (Who remembers the late one?)
That ambush had cost them dearly—not only were their funds completely taken, but several of his brothers were injured as well. This time, they had thought they were dealing with an inconspicuous minor noble, only to find themselves facing another hidden threat that left them feeling utterly despondent.
At this moment, the other twelve Wandering Knights sat on their horses like wilted eggplants, allowing their mounts to carry them slowly forward. Each face was etched with confusion and despair, completely at a loss about where to go next.
Time passed slowly. Three hours later, John was leisurely savoring delicious pastries while listening to reports from the soldiers beside him.
"My lord, that group of Wandering Knights is following closely behind our convoy," one soldier said nervously.
John furrowed his brow slightly in surprise. He couldn't believe that the Wandering Knights who had just surrendered would be foolish enough to launch another attack. However, their persistent following made him uneasy.
"Well then, rather than speculate here, I might as well see for myself what's going on," he decided.
With that, John set down his pastry, stood up, adjusted his armor, and walked toward the rear where the Wandering Knights were.

Gervas's eyes widened as he stared at the massive convoy that had suddenly come to a halt in front of them. His heart raced as he quickly tightened the reins in his hands, trying to stop his horse from charging forward.
Unfortunately for the knights behind him who were distracted and not paying attention, they were not so lucky. Unable to react in time, they could not effectively control their galloping steeds. Suddenly, there was a loud crash as several horses collided.
The unexpected impact threw the entire scene into chaos. Hooves flew and dust swirled as the knights shouted in alarm. However, being well-trained individuals, they managed to regain their balance after a flurry of activity and no one fell from their mounts.
Gervas felt a mix of helplessness and anger as he looked at this disorganized and chaotic group before him. He couldn't help but shake his head in dismay: how could I possibly lead such a ragtag bunch? No wonder we keep making mistakes along the way; it’s truly exasperating! With that thought in mind, he couldn't help but shout at those knights still scrambling to regain formation: "Get it together! Control your horses properly and stop charging around like that!"
