The perspective slowly shifted downward, revealing John on the ground, his face a mask of exhaustion and terror. He struggled to lift his head, gazing up at the vast, boundless sky.
In recent days, through his own efforts and a stroke of luck, John had believed himself to have risen above the rest. However, at this moment, as he witnessed the scene before him, he suddenly realized the staggering chasm that lay between himself and the true powerhouses of this world.
Those who could traverse the heavens, cleave through nebulae with their swords, and wield magic that could penetrate the fabric of reality were the ones who truly deserved to be called exceptional!
As John focused intently on the sky, he suddenly felt a hand gripping tightly at his pant leg. He turned sharply to find his older brother Redman signaling urgently to him.
"Come on, John!" Redman hissed in a frantic whisper.
At that moment, John became acutely aware that even though everyone was crushed under an overwhelming pressure that rendered them unable to stand, they could still manage to crawl forward. Some sharp-eyed individuals had already taken advantage of the brief moment when John had looked up and had scurried nearly a hundred meters ahead like startled rabbits.
John stared in disbelief at those desperately crawling figures, unable to suppress his thoughts: Is it really possible to move like this?
Yet despite his complaints, he understood that survival was paramount at this moment. Without hesitation, he turned and hurriedly followed the main group, straining to crawl outward. After all, no matter how captivating the battle in the sky might be, it paled in comparison to the value of his own life.
It seemed as if everyone had grasped this crucial point in an instant; every survivor was using every ounce of strength they had left to frantically wriggle away from danger. If someone were to look down from above at that moment, they might mistakenly think it was a massive migration of ants or caterpillars.
Spitting out dirt from his mouth after crawling for a while, John finally managed to stand up. He helped Redman up as well, and together they stumbled to their feet, watching the battlefield where sounds of shattering air continued to erupt in the distance.
"Brother, I think we made it!" John exclaimed.
"Looks like it," Redman replied cautiously. "But we should hurry; who knows which of those two will win?" Fear gripped Redman; all notions of knightly honor seemed trivial in the face of such overwhelming power. Living was what truly mattered.
As the crisis passed and adrenaline faded away, Redman realized that his calves were no longer responding properly.
"Help me out here, brother," he said weakly. It was then that John noticed Redman's leg was broken. They quickly assessed their surroundings and decided to flee; as long as they could return to Blink County, it didn’t matter where they ended up.
In the dead of night, amidst a dilapidated abandoned village, John and Redman—those fortunate enough to survive—led what remained of their battered group through countless hardships until they finally escaped that horrifying battlefield soaked in blood.
At this moment, they were utterly exhausted, swaying like flickering candles in the wind. Who had ultimately emerged victorious on the battlefield had become irrelevant for these two weary souls.
