Singing filled the air, but outside, a cacophony of noise erupted. John initially thought little of it; after all, it was normal for a military camp to be a bit rowdy, especially with so many hot-blooded men around. Occasional scuffles and fights were to be expected. However, the noise grew louder, almost as if a sound was breaking through the sky from a distant horizon.
What the hell is going on? John muttered under his breath as he stepped out of the tent at a leisurely pace. He saw people in the camp running around like headless chickens, some even pointing at the sky in terror.
What could possibly be happening up there? Reluctantly, he raised his head to gaze at the heavens, pondering what strange and bizarre phenomenon could be occurring above.
He was not prepared for what he saw! The sun appeared unusually large today, accompanied by howling winds. At that moment, a sudden realization struck him—a sense of foreboding washed over him.
Oh no! This can’t be good; could it be a meteor? Before he could finish his thought, his sharp-eyed comrades quickly grabbed him and sprinted away from the scene.
Just then, a deafening boom echoed through the air as a massive meteor crashed down, obliterating the entire camp in an instant. The tremendous shockwave swept through tens of thousands of allied soldiers, scattering them like leaves in a storm and causing heavy casualties.
John, still in shock, glanced around and noticed that his immediate area had fared relatively well; it hadn’t been too severely affected. In stark contrast, the scene elsewhere was horrific—total devastation. Especially in the central camp where the Third Prince was stationed; it had been completely crushed beneath the fallen meteor. Those inside were likely doomed.
Filled with intense curiosity, John desperately wanted to investigate further. Yet for some reason, his feet felt glued to the ground; he couldn’t muster the courage to take even a small step closer.
What on earth is happening? Is Liu Xiu over there? Panic surged within him as his mind raced to devise a plan.
With no other choice, he decided to organize the panicked soldiers around him as best as he could. After all, having more people around might provide some psychological comfort amidst the chaos.
John raised his voice and shouted: “Everyone stay calm! Quickly gather together! Stay alert!” The soldiers responded to his call and began to form a tight-knit group.
At the same time, John’s gaze never left the vast expanse of sky above him. His heart raced in his throat; he was so tense that even his breathing became cautious, fearing another massive meteor might fall from above.
Suddenly, someone shouted: “Look! There are two black dots!” It was Kuiradi, whose sharp eyes had spotted something unusual. He pointed toward a specific spot in the sky with astonishment and confusion etched on his face.
Following Kuiradi’s direction, John quickly looked up. Just as Kuiradi had said, there were indeed two small black dots flickering in the distance. “I see them!” John exclaimed.
However, despite being able to discern their presence, he couldn’t make out what they were due to their great distance. From their vague outlines, they appeared to be two figures.
But how could anyone just stand there in mid-air? This left John even more perplexed and bewildered.
