John would not heed Mr. Poland's refusal. He swiftly turned to the guards beside him and shouted, "What are you standing around for? Move quickly! Be respectful, and do not offend Mr. Poland!"
Upon hearing this, the guards dared not delay and immediately sprang into action. Seeing this, Poland felt it unnecessary to insist on his refusal and reluctantly sat down with John.
As soon as they were seated, Poland casually pushed a one-handed sword, a gift from Redman, toward John's lap and smiled, saying, "This is a precious gift specially bestowed upon you by Lord Redman. To be honest, I've coveted it for quite some time myself."
"Ah, then that would mean taking away something you cherish! I truly feel bad about that," John replied with a hearty laugh as he unsheathed the sword with a clang and examined it closely. The moment he looked at it, he was astonished.
In his heart, John marveled: this is an extraordinary sword! The quality of the blade, the craftsmanship, and the decorations on the hilt all far surpassed his previous sword.
"Wow, what a sword!" John exclaimed sincerely. After admiring it for a moment, he carefully sheathed the sword and placed it on the high platform behind him before striking up a casual conversation with Poland. After all, he had invited Poland to sit; he couldn't let the atmosphere grow cold.
"Mr. Poland, you've been under my brother's command for some time now, and I haven't had the chance to visit you. Today, let me treat you to a drink as a welcome."
"Thank you! Let's forget about past grievances; after all, you are Lord Redman's confidant. You two are practically family now. I hope Mr. John will look out for me in the future."
Poland clearly understood that John held significant status in the eyes of their superior. He was someone who could take things lightly when necessary; after all, one must adapt to survive.
John raised his teacup while saying, "Of course! I will look out for you; we should support each other. If there's anything you need in the future, just let me know—I will do my best to help."
Poland drank from his teacup but hesitated for a moment before speaking again.
"Since Mr. John has said that, I do have something I’d like to ask of you—I'm not sure if it's appropriate to bring up."
John cleared his throat; he hadn't expected that his earlier pleasantries would lead to such a request. However, he had already stated that he would help if possible, so he decided to listen first.
"What is it?"
Noticing John's change in tone, Poland pressed on.
"As you know, I am a Virtual Knight. While I do receive a salary, I have had some turbulent past experiences. Consequently, I have several children and would like my three sons to find work here as your Knight Attendants."
"Your sons?" John hadn't anticipated this request. He understood what Poland meant; in noble circles, it was common for families to send their children to serve as attendants under actual noblemen—this was how many knights in the Marquis Duvas' order were recruited.
"I wonder if I could take a look at them? After all, selecting attendants is no small matter."
A Knight Attendant is like a knight's right-hand man—just like Lyd is to Redman; many have even sacrificed their lives for their lords.
"Ah! That can be arranged! Just send someone to my tent to call for me; my third son is named Tom Wilson."
