John sat on the sofa, his eyes clear and focused, holding a glass of sobering soup as he contemplated his recent move in the game.
It should have been a good decision; it strengthened his own position while expanding his network, and most importantly, it increased Redman's standing in his heart. Now, Redman had risen another level in importance. He could train troops, brew potions, fight battles, and gather allies. In this barren world, John was confident that Redman would soon be regarded as his most trusted minister, someone who could never be used as a bargaining chip.
As Redman's strength grew, he would be better able to protect John, allowing him to accumulate power during this weak early stage. Unfortunately, the template bonuses were not like those in the typical novels; he desperately needed time. The advancement to Transcendent required time—at least two more years before he could achieve that status. His subordinates like Kuiradi, Master, and Kevin Qi also needed time to gradually gather their strength.
Unless he could find a beast-level Magic Wolf—specifically a Transcendent Wolf—his subordinates at Half-Step Transcendent would be the limit.
After downing the sobering soup and feigning a fresh sobriety, John realized he had lingered long enough. Redman should have finished discussing matters with Oreo Knight and the others by now; it was time for him to assert his importance and perhaps do these guys a personal favor.
As he descended the stairs from the second floor, he spotted Redman chatting and laughing with Oreo Knight and the others. In the distance, Heide and Baron Leon wore noticeably grim expressions.
Baron Hyde and Baron Leon were likely cursing inwardly; after all, either of their families could easily dominate Redman. Yet when it came to actual strength, who could match Redman?
Adjusting his smile, John took a wine glass from a servant's tray and approached Redman.
"Hello everyone!"
Seeing John arrive, Redman stepped aside to introduce him to everyone.
"John here is my dear brother-in-law. You all need to show him respect; he is my cherished friend and brother."
"Oh no, not at all! You all are far superior to me; I still have much to learn from you."
Everyone listened to John's modesty but dared not take it seriously. It was clear to anyone with eyes that he was truly Redman's trusted confidant and an old hand among them. The newcomers did not dare overstep their bounds and respectfully referred to John.
"John is being humble," Redman said with a grin. "We are all brothers here! Just now, my elder brother mentioned that since you’ve decided to join our family, those potions can’t be sold at such high prices anymore. Let me think for a moment—what was the agreed base price again?"
John scratched his head, pretending to struggle with recalling the details.
Seeing this, Eamon quickly chimed in, "Brother John, one bottle of potion is eighteen gold coins!"
"Yes! Yes! Eighteen gold coins!"
John slapped his thigh in realization. However, internally he grumbled about these two seemingly righteous fellows who dared to profit from the difference.
Noticing that John hadn’t revealed any of their tricks, Eamon and Oreo Knight finally breathed a sigh of relief. They stood quietly waiting for John to continue speaking.
Clearing his throat dramatically, John waved his hand grandly and declared loudly.
"Since we are all family now, I won't be trying to profit off my brothers! How about this: I'll sell you these potions at a fair price of eleven gold coins each. That way, I’ll just barely cover my material costs."
"Hahaha, my little brother is truly loyal!" Redman laughed heartily as he stepped forward and patted John on the shoulder, his face filled with admiration.
"I can vouch for you all; when John concocts these healing potions, he needs the heart of a Magic Wolf as an ingredient. That stuff is quite valuable, so he really isn't making a dime off you this time."
After saying that, Redman cast a meaningful glance at those around him, as if to imply that without him, they wouldn't be getting such a great deal.
