"Brother, I need to talk to you."
Redman saw it was John and asked the two companions to wait. After greeting Heide and Baron Leon, Redman followed John up to the second floor.
"What’s going on, John?" Redman took the sobering soup from the servant and began to drink it in large gulps; he had no idea when this banquet would start.
After putting down the soup he had just received, John didn’t intend to directly reveal what he was up to. Instead, he inquired about the alliance situation. "How are things going with those two guys?"
Redman slumped onto the sofa, looking somewhat drained. "Sigh, not optimistic. Even with your potions backing us, our strength is too weak. Those two old foxes each have five Transcendent Knights in their households; we’re just too weak."
"Didn’t your family send anyone to help you?" John couldn’t believe that the White Family would just leave Redman to fend for himself; after all, this was a Barony, even if it had been ravaged by war.
"They did send someone, one you know."
"Who?" John asked, intrigued; he recognized the name.
"Poland."
Hearing Redman mention the name, John felt a sense of familiarity. Slowly piecing it together, he realized who it was—no, how did that guy end up here?
John recalled that Poland was the Captain of the Gray Bear Mercenary Corps and an old benefactor of his.
"Not well regarded at home, huh? Do you think someone who joined the family halfway would be welcomed? He probably came here to seek better opportunities for himself; I estimate he’ll be here in two or three days."
In truth, Redman didn’t want someone with a background as a slave trader; their loyalty was too low. Who knew if they would turn against him at a critical moment?
"I see. Brother, if I can help you resolve this predicament, how would you thank me?"
Redman looked at John with a half-smile and immediately perked up; perhaps John really had a solution.
"Quickly tell me! What’s your plan?"
"Well, I don’t have a solid plan yet, but I’ve talked with those merchant knights. They are willing to join Binhai Town." John shared what he had just accomplished.
"Really! You’re impressive, little brother." Redman hadn’t expected John to be so capable but then wondered if John had made some reckless promise.
"There are conditions involved, right?"
"Of course, I have, but I painted a picture for them."
John poured out everything that had just happened and began to explain his intentions.
"Brother, even though I said so much, I never claimed that all these villages could actually be given to them. After the battle, you can see who survives, and among those who do, you can identify the ones worth cultivating—those who are absolutely loyal. Then you can give them a village as their administrative area."
"You really are something!" Redman admired John, noting how he managed to rally the Knight Squad without offering any tangible benefits. Even if in the end he only tossed a few scraps to entertain these monkeys, it would suffice.
"Impressive! Truly impressive!"
"Where would we be without your solid strength, brother?" John quickly flattered him.
"Exactly! With you and me together, we're both formidable!"
At that moment, Redman felt that bringing John into his inner circle was undoubtedly the best decision of his life.
"Brother, you rest here for a bit. I'm going to check on my men."
"Perfect timing! I need to lie down for a while; I've had a bit too much to drink."
As Redman walked away, John opened his eyes on the sofa, his face showing no signs of intoxication.
