John extended his hand and gestured three fingers.
"Thirty gold coins! Are you serious about selling, brother? How much did you pocket in between?" he exclaimed, surprised at the high price.
"Thirty gold coins is too much. You can negotiate; I’m open to offers. If you can come down to a reasonable price, we can make a deal," John replied, indicating that thirty gold coins was definitely not the final price.
Aemon and Ao Ao exchanged glances, their eyes communicating silently. They turned away to discuss, using their hands to gesture as they deliberated over their desired price. After a lengthy discussion, they finally turned back to face John.
John, who had been sneaking glances at them, quickly sat up straight and feigned indifference.
"So, have you thought it over? What are you willing to offer?" he asked.
Aemon smiled broadly and opened his mouth to reveal the price they had just discussed.
"How about this amount of gold coins?"
"That works," John replied with a grin.
"Really! I didn’t expect this price to be acceptable," Aemon said, surprised.
"Of course not! Don’t joke around," he added, slightly irritated. "How can you play with people like that?"
John looked at him seriously, a smirk playing on his lips. "Weren't you the one who started joking first? I said thirty coins, and you countered with a lower number. You initiated the joke."
Aemon gritted his teeth and finally said, "Ten coins!"
"Twenty coins!"
"Twelve coins!"
"Twenty-three coins!"
After a lengthy back-and-forth negotiation, John finally declared his final offer: "Sixteen gold coins each. Take it or leave it."
Aemon and Ao Ao exchanged another look; they knew this was as low as it would go.
"This price is still a bit high, but we agree," Aemon said reluctantly.
The two men felt quite helpless, but there was nothing they could do since it was a seller's market.
John, seeing that the deal was about to be finalized, began to inquire about the quantity they wished to purchase.
"Sixty units. We want sixty units," Ao Ao replied in his raspy voice.
"Sixty units will cost you gold coins. How about you come back in a week to pick up the goods from my brother?" John suggested, not wanting these guys on his territory; he worried about what might happen if things went wrong.
"Deal."
With the agreement reached, the three of them raised their glasses and clinked them together to signify a pleasant cooperation, while also chatting about various trivial matters.
After a few drinks, the relationship between both parties grew closer, and John took the opportunity to share his intentions with the two men.
"Do you know why I chose to deal with you instead of those other guys?"
Ao Ao and Eamon immediately became alert; they sensed that John had something more to say.
"We're not sure. Please enlighten us, Knight John."
