Bang!
As the wooden raft was washed ashore by the waves, John stepped off its edge. Without needing to give orders, several soldiers pulled the raft further onto the beach to prevent it from being swept away by the rising tide.
In the depths of the dense forest, the calls of birds echoed. Listening to the sounds and observing the low trees, John concluded that this island did not harbor any large creatures. He drew his steel sword and cleared the bushes blocking their path, leading his soldiers around the island.
The first island was indeed not very large. After circling along the coastline, they discovered that its length was merely about four miles. After a thorough search, they confirmed that there were no overlooked areas on this island.
John decided to lead half of his soldiers deeper into the island for exploration. Their journey proceeded smoothly without encountering any real dangers. However, as they approached the center of the island, a foul odor began to permeate the air. The stench grew increasingly intense and nauseating, reminiscent of being in a giant pigeon coop. Moreover, the soil beneath their feet seemed to change, becoming stickier and taking on a bizarre color.
This phenomenon raised a hint of suspicion in John's mind, but he forced himself to push forward despite his discomfort. The closer they got, the more he felt that this smell was indeed similar to that of a pigeon coop.
To verify his suspicion, he took a long spear from one of his soldiers and plunged it forcefully into the ground. Gripping the spear tightly, he exerted all his strength to lift it upward, sending a large mass of soil flying into the air.
As the dust settled slightly, John focused his gaze and was instantly filled with joy.
"Hahaha! We’ve struck gold! Everyone spread out and turn over all the surrounding soil to see if it’s all this color!"
He excitedly shouted orders.
Responding to his command, the soldiers quickly dispersed in different directions, using their tools to dig up and inspect the earth beneath them. Before long, reports began to come in one after another.
"Yes! My lord, this soil is the same here!"
"My lord, it’s just like this over here too!"
Hearing these reports made John's smile grow even brighter; he could hardly contain his excitement.
It was confirmed. This island was indeed a bird droppings island—soft gold everywhere! With this island, John’s food production could increase significantly. Given his occupational trait Abundant Harvest, John’s yield as a knight lord equated to that of two or even three surrounding knight lords combined.
After setting aside his own share, he could mix this soil with ash and well-prepared manure to create a specialized fertilizer for sale across various territories.
He used to worry that the glass trade wouldn't last long, but now he wasn't afraid anymore. Weight gain supplements could be sold freely, and on such a large island, he could exchange them for a considerable amount of gold coins.
He planned to buy a ship; as soon as he returned, he would purchase not just one, but three large cargo ships to transport these treasures.
