John dragged his weary body and slowly dipped his feet into the warm basin of water. A wave of warmth instantly spread throughout him, prompting a satisfied sigh to escape his lips. Finally, he was back in the comfort of his own bed.
At the bedside, four beautiful maids busily attended to him. Two of them gently massaged his entire body with skilled and professional techniques, each press perfectly easing his tense muscles. The other two carefully held dishes of delicacies prepared by the chef, feeding John mouthful by mouthful.
"Master, please open your mouth," one maid said softly, her voice as melodious as a nightingale.
Obediently, John opened his mouth and took a bite of the water she offered. The sweet juice burst in his mouth: "Mmm, so sweet!" The feeling of being so tenderly cared for was simply wonderful. He couldn't help but exclaim that this was the happiness that a Lord should enjoy!
As he savored this delightful moment, John secretly contemplated that in a few days, he would build a large pond outside his city walls. This would not only effectively combat drought and ensure the water needs of the residents but also allow him to relax by the pond and fish during his leisure time.
Two maids' gentle voices interrupted his thoughts: "Master, please lift your feet."
John raised his feet from the water and gently placed them on the soft thighs of the two maids. They picked up towels and carefully wiped away the remaining droplets from his feet before thoughtfully helping him into his slippers.
After washing his feet and being pampered by the attentive maids, John quickly dressed.
Just then, a light knock sounded at the door.
Knock knock.
"Come in," John replied lazily.
The door slowly opened to reveal John's trusted subordinate, Master. He respectfully bowed to John before straightening up, though his gaze remained fixed on John's waist rather than on the alluring maids beside him.
"My lord, the serfs have been assigned to the farm as you requested. I've also had people repair the mill and waterwheel during these days."
"Good," John said, looking at Master with satisfaction. It was no surprise that someone from a background like Wandering Knight would be reliable in their work.
"Remember to select some diligent and honest serfs to bolster our ranks," John added after considering their numbers. He wanted to fill out their team first before rotating in new weapons and training for the young serfs.
Master looked somewhat puzzled upon hearing this.
"My lord, while it’s not difficult for our territory to support a team, won't training the serfs affect farming? What if—"
John waved his hand dismissively at the nearby maids.
The six maids understood and gracefully exited the room, closing the door behind them.
"Master, I understand your concerns, but there's no need to worry. I don't place much value on what we produce from the fields; right now, strength is what matters most."
"You must understand that competition for resources in the capital is fierce. Who knows when conflict might arise? We can't control their battles; we can only strengthen ourselves. Having soldiers at our disposal will ensure we are never caught off guard."
"Your wisdom is unmatched."
Master realized that his vision had been limited, and he had not anticipated these developments.
