In the Barony of Salty Fish Village, there lies a place known for its hard pine wood, renowned for its toughness—so tough that it could be likened to a stubborn mouth. With the support of this pine wood, Baron Hyde established a grand estate in this land. If John’s Salty Fish Village could be compared to a humble thatched cottage, then the baron’s residence was akin to a three-story villa.
Thanks to the escorting of the procurement team, John had the opportunity to meet Baron Heide of Pinewood Town. The portly Baron Hyde approached John with a leisurely gait, his round belly leading the way. He wore a warm and friendly smile, showing none of the airs typically associated with nobility. If it weren't for John's keen observation that detected the faint aura of transcendence surrounding him, he might have mistaken this baron for an ordinary middle-aged merchant.
"Stephen Knight, you truly are a remarkable young man!" Baron Hyde exclaimed, raising his exquisite wine glass with a smile. John slightly nodded in acknowledgment and generously offered his compliments in return.
"What am I compared to you? I merely happened to catch the wave of good fortune, just a drop in the tide of this era. Compared to you, I still have a long way to go! If one day I could possess even half of what you have, it would be like my ancestors blessing me from beyond!"
Hearing this, Baron Hyde burst into hearty laughter, gently patting his protruding belly as he graciously accepted John’s praise. "Hahaha, where would that be? We are all beneficiaries of our ancestors' blessings. I am merely doing my utmost to safeguard the little legacy passed down to me."
In truth, Baron Hyde had already thoroughly assessed John’s background. To him, if it weren’t for John’s connections with Redman White Baron and the influential Viscount White standing behind him, someone of John's lowly status would hardly have qualified to step through the grand doors of his luxurious estate.
On this vast continent, although knights were considered to hold noble status, in the subtle and unspoken rules that governed society, few truly regarded a knight as part of the nobility. Individuals from old aristocratic families like Heide never acknowledged knights as belonging to their ranks. In the eyes of these arrogant traditional nobles, knights were merely lowly servants they could appoint at will.
At this moment, seated at the dining table, John keenly sensed Baron Hyde's condescending attitude towards him. However, John was quite perceptive; after finishing his meal quietly, he stood up and respectfully bowed to Baron Hyde as he took his leave. Throughout this exchange, there was no dramatic confrontation because on the surface, Baron Hyde had not committed any overt rudeness.
As for the underlying disdain and contempt hidden deep within him, it mattered little to John. After all, this was not like being subjected to the merciless whip wielded by slave traders that inflicted physical pain and scars. Thus, John remained unfazed and quietly accepted everything.
After a long journey, they finally arrived at the border of Songlin Town.
"Valiant Mammoth Knight," John said with a smile, "thank you for your tireless escort along the way; your presence here is more than enough. Once again, I sincerely express my gratitude and warmly welcome you to visit my Salty Fish Village whenever you have leisure time."
With a deep bow towards the knight under Baron Hyde's command, John spoke earnestly in thanks. He then turned around and led his convoy onward towards their home in Salty Fish Village. For John, Songlin Town was merely a small interlude in his journey.
Perhaps in the future, coming back will only be for the purpose of buying some pine wood.
Returning to Salty Fish Village in the evening.
