Leaving the Yodel Trading Company, John took his Blacksmith Apprentice, Das, to the caravan. However, he couldn't treat Das lightly, as the apprentice was actually two or three years older than him.
"Two of you, take good care of Das. He's a blacksmith I worked hard to find," John instructed.
After giving his orders, John swiftly made his way to the next street. He knew very well that Salty Fish Village was in urgent need of manpower! The labor shortage in the village was so severe that even critical tasks like sowing seeds were difficult to complete smoothly.
Before long, John arrived at the entrance of the Defias Slave Trade. The Chamber of Commerce had a rather unique appearance, with its entrance showcasing a wasteland style of decor that immediately caught John's attention.
He couldn't help but mutter to himself, wondering if the merchants here were simply too lazy to put in more effort into their decor.
Despite the rough style of the interior, the Chamber of Commerce was bustling with activity. Among the throngs of people, various slaves were seen wearing heavy shackles, being escorted in and out by guards. Clearly, a large-scale trade in human trafficking was taking place here.
At that moment, a voice called out from nearby: "Welcome, esteemed guests! I presume you are here to purchase slaves? I am a guide from the Defias Brotherhood."
Turning at the sound, John saw a person dressed in plain coarse cloth, with a slave mark prominently branded on their arm.
Seeing this scene made John chuckle inwardly; he thought it was quite clever for this Chamber of Commerce to use slaves as salespeople for other slaves. This certainly reduced their operational costs significantly.
John nodded slightly and replied, "Yes, we are indeed here to buy slaves. I'm looking to purchase around three hundred Serfs. Can the Noble Merchant Association provide that many?"
The guide quickly patted their chest and assured him, "Rest assured! Our Serfs from the Defias Brotherhood are among the strongest. Whether you want them as breeding stock or for hard labor, they are top-notch choices."
"Can you take me to see them?" John asked casually; after all, he wanted to choose his slaves carefully.
"Of course! This way, please. The holding area for the Serfs is just inside." The guide stepped aside and led the way.
The familiar wooden cages and smells reminded John of the Gray Bear Mercenary Corps, though this place was much larger. It brought back memories of when he first crossed over; fortunately, he had a skill to rely on.
"Guests, these are the Serfs. The ones on the left are mute slaves; you can choose them as well. They have been rendered mute by potions and cannot reproduce."
Mute slaves—this was John's first time seeing them. He scanned around; each one was decent-looking male slave material. He wondered how they ended up in a pile of Serfs since he remembered that this type was usually favored by Noble Widows back at the Gray Bear Mercenary Corps.
"These are also Serfs? I thought they were all sold off to those old ladies?"
Surprised by John's knowledge, the guide replied, "Indeed! These have been discarded by nobles and sold here. But don’t worry—after being trained by nobles, they are more obedient than ordinary Serfs."
Oh, then I must take a good look.
