Kuiradi took a deep breath and gulped down the hot soup in one go, the scalding liquid making him stick out his tongue. It was definitely hot; it had just come off the stove, and the chef had given him a bowl of cool water. 0

John felt he should have brought Master along, but leaving Kuiradi at home made him uneasy. Oh well, his subordinate would have to endure it. 0

Once he had calmed down, Kuiradi spoke up. "My lord, I just took the soldiers on a reconnaissance mission and found many corpses of villagers." 0

"That's normal," John replied nonchalantly. Death was all too common in this world where lives were cheaper than grass. 0

"If it were just corpses, we could bury them and move on. But many of the bodies have bite marks, and I detected some magical energy." 0

"Magical energy? Is it from magical beasts?" John hoped that nothing else had happened. 0

Kuiradi shook his head. "Worse. It's the Stench Mud Monster." 0

"The Stench Mud Monster!" John felt a wave of nausea wash over him at the mention of that name. 0

The Stench Mud Monster was a type of Transcendent creature, and among the weakest of them all—weak enough that even a Half-Step Transcendent Knight Attendant could deal with it. It was also one of the most repulsive Transcendent beings, reeking of foul odors and composed of various decaying animal corpses, excrement, and other disgusting materials. Its attacks were weak, but its presence was highly insulting. If a weapon were to pierce its body and be pulled out again, no matter how much one cleaned it, the stench would linger for at least a month. 0

"Damn it! What is that smell? It's absolutely unbearable!" John complained while pinching his nose. "I wondered why as soon as we entered this village, we were hit by such a strong, pungent odor." 0

Initially, he had planned to leave this cursed place quickly, but when his gaze fell upon the large pot simmering with lamb stew, he hesitated. After all, it would be a shame to waste such a delicious meal. 0

He hurriedly shouted to the chef, "Get that pot onto the cart! We need to make our escape quickly!" 0

Upon hearing the command, the chef scrambled to move the pot onto the cart. 0

At that moment, Kuiradi began urging everyone loudly, "Everyone hurry up! Get on the cart!" 0

The others responded quickly and climbed onto the cart. John dashed forward and plopped himself down on it. He then cracked his whip against the horses' backs like rain falling on a roof while shouting incessantly, eager to leave this dreadful place behind. 0

However, contrary to his wishes, they hadn't traveled far before they found their path blocked by a massive mud monster towering four meters high. The creature emanated an awful stench that made one want to gag. 0

Seeing this scene unfold before him, John sighed helplessly and jumped off the cart. He looked down at the short sword strapped to his legs and after a moment's thought, decisively reached for a long spear from the cart. Truthfully, if given a choice, he wouldn't want to touch this disgusting creature at all. 0

"Kuiradi, how about you take care of it this time?" John turned to his companion behind him and asked tentatively. 0

"Me?!" Kuiradi exclaimed, his eyes wide with shock as he pointed at himself in disbelief. Although he was known for his bravery, facing such a disgusting creature made him feel anything but foolish. "My lord, please don’t joke around. This situation is more suited for you. Besides, I've not been feeling well lately, like a woman during her period—I'm just not in good shape." 0

John was momentarily taken aback by Kuiradi's words, staring blankly for a few seconds before processing what he meant. With a mix of amusement and exasperation, he replied, "What do you mean by that? You actually have the nerve to use that as an excuse? Enough with the nonsense! We’re going in together; no one is allowed to back out now!" With that, he brandished his spear, readying himself for battle. 0
