Faced with John's inquiry, the Master did not dare to show any signs of negligence and quickly replied, "My lord, the two unfortunate soldiers who lost their lives, as well as the five who are still alive, all hail from our Salty Fish Village. When the village was attacked by orcs, they were forced to flee and, by chance, joined the First Legion, becoming part of the Militia. Now that this battle has ended in great victory, they are being sent back to their hometown as per custom."
John seemed to know who they were and spoke in a tone that sounded more like an order than a suggestion. "Oh, then let them join our ranks. Veterans who have seen blood are a treasure; I believe once we save them, they will be grateful."
The Master nodded vigorously, knowing well that seasoned veterans are the backbone of any unit. "Yes, my lord! Your wisdom is unmatched. I will go and recruit them right away."
After collecting the spoils of war, everyone did not linger but quickly retreated. The forest did not allow them to fully utilize their strengths. John led everyone out to the grassy area outside the woods, waiting for the Goblins' revenge.
John was not worried that the Goblins would not come. These creatures, known for their brutality, preferred to attack in numbers; seeing only a hundred soldiers before them would likely spur them to charge.
As expected, a few panicked Goblins rushed back to report to their chief about the situation. "Chieftain! There are so many soldiers outside! It's like a flock of sheep!"
These poor Goblins, with their simple minds and inability to count, could only describe the enemy's numbers with such crude metaphors.
At that moment, sitting in the center of the Goblin camp adorned with a fearsome beast skull was a gray Goblin chief. Upon hearing this news, it was instantly filled with rage. Its eyes widened with fury as it shouted angrily, "Where are the other Goblins we sent out? Have they all been killed?"
One of the trembling messengers replied cautiously, "Yes, Chieftain! Those despicable humans not only slaughtered our companions but also cruelly mutilated them! It’s terrifying!"
After hearing this, the Goblin chief could no longer contain its anger. It leaped to its feet, gripping its enormous axe tightly and swinging it wildly.
Clearly, this massive axe was a trophy from its past victories over formidable foes but had now become an instrument for venting its wrath.
"What! Those damned bastards dare treat our great Goblin tribe like this! This is unforgivable! Everyone stand up! We cannot swallow this anger; we must make those arrogant humans pay dearly! Charge! Annihilate them all!"
With the chief's command, the previously quiet Goblin lair erupted into chaos. The tall and powerful Goblins quickly grabbed their weapons and surged forward like a tidal wave.
The ordinary Goblins on the periphery did not dare lag behind either; they hurriedly followed the main force into battle. In an instant, the entire Goblin clan mobilized with great momentum towards John's position.
