Leaving the scorching brick kiln, I scooped a ladle of water from the well inside the courtyard. Ah, how refreshing. The cold spring water flowed between my teeth, the icy chill seeping into my heart. Lying comfortably on the hammock in the backyard, I felt at ease; this was the life of a noble. John wished he could stop striving altogether. 0

Johnny quietly approached John, his voice low as he sensed John's slight drowsiness. "Dinner is ready, my lord." 0

"Oh? What’s on the menu?" John asked, curious. 0

Johnny thought about the dishes prepared by the team’s cook. "There’s vegetable soup and barley bread. Lord Kuiradi even hunted some wild beasts, and the kitchen has made barbecue. You should enjoy it." 0

John felt reassured by the skills of these cooks; most of them had once been his aides on the battlefield. Although they weren't as skilled as he was, they were certainly better than those other noble chefs who only knew how to gaze at the stars and make pineapple pie. 0

"Go deliver the food to the warriors by the stove; I can manage here," John instructed. 0

"Understood, my lord." Johnny wasted no time, turning to leave without further questions. Regardless of their past camaraderie as comrades-in-arms, John was now his lord, and he knew to follow orders. 0

At the dining table, only John, Kuiradi, and Master were present. Despite the many soldiers and craftsmen around, only these three had the privilege to sit at the table. This was still a reflection of John's insufficient standing; in some old noble families, even a Half-Step Transcendent wouldn't qualify to dine with them. 0

John had no intention of breaking these rules; he lacked both the ability to do so and the strength to face any repercussions that might arise from such actions. 0

"What did you two find during your survey today?" Kuiradi asked. 0

"My lord, there wasn’t much to report. There aren’t many large beasts around Salty Fish Village; it seems to be a consequence of the previous lord's management. However, I did find traces of Goblins in the forest." 0

"Goblins?" 0

"Don’t think that Goblins are all alike. The Goblins accompanying beastmen are different from those in the wild. The Goblins have a complete culture—albeit somewhat archaic—but at least they possess intelligence." 0

"In contrast, wild Goblins can be seen as an opposite evolutionary path; although individually weaker, their reproductive capabilities are renowned throughout all fantasy realms, with almost no intelligence." 0

"Are there any variants among them?" John asked as he cut into his steak, savoring a piece slowly as its juices flowed down his throat, tantalizing his taste buds. 0

"Does a big one count? My lord, I saw a large one." 0

"Oh, that’s good news; no other variants then." This revelation eased John's mind significantly. A big one was considered a common variant among Goblins and was roughly equivalent in strength to John himself at present. 0

"Are there many of them?" This was what concerned John most; Goblins were like cockroaches—once discovered, they came in swarms. Some noble territories had been overrun by these creatures. 0

I didn't dare let the soldiers get too close, so I climbed a tree to take a look myself. Just north of our territory, I estimated there were about five hundred of them. If we leave them be, in a month they could multiply, with each nest producing four or five young. In five months, their numbers would grow rapidly. 0

Sigh, this wretched place is even plagued by Goblins. However, the Goblins from the big city have already been wiped out by the Mercenary group. 0

Despite their unremarkable appearance, Goblins are notoriously vicious. Yet, according to folk legends, their essence is said to enhance virility, making them hot commodities in various markets. Thus, these Goblins present both a threat and an opportunity for John. 0

Since the Goblins have arrived, it seems heaven has bestowed upon us a fortune that we cannot afford to miss. I ordered the troops to assemble, leaving twenty men to guard our home while the rest armed themselves. We were going to seize this chance for wealth. 0
