"Our Chamber of Commerce mainly deals in food, textiles, armor, weapons, livestock, and jewelry. Whatever you need for battle or from nobles, we can provide."
Maderules was not joking; with Marquis Duvas backing them, they could procure anything.
"I’d like to get an estimate for my treasures," John said, not rushing. He needed to know how much wealth he had before converting his spoils into gold coins.
"Of course! Please place your treasures on this table," Maderules replied.
He did not approach to touch the items himself but instead instructed John's attendants to lay each piece of jewelry on a large table covered with a layer of red cloth that felt soft under their hands.
John was curious. "Sir, why do it this way? Wouldn’t it be easier for you to inspect them directly?"
Maderules quickly bent down and replied while examining the jewelry. "My dear guest, you may not know this is our standard procedure for acquiring jewelry. We want to avoid accidentally damaging your precious items."
John understood; it was similar to antiquities in his past life—one person places it down while another picks it up, avoiding any disputes.
As he observed Maderules and several shop assistants exchanging glances while assessing the jewelry, John took the opportunity to engage one of the nearby staff members in conversation.
"Excuse me, do you know where I can buy slaves in this city?"
A territory cannot rely solely on its militia; they were primarily laborers who worked in the fields and lacked skills even for weapon repairs. He would at least need to purchase a few blacksmiths and carpenters.
The shop assistant did not hesitate; anyone who could roam around with such a large entourage without being stopped by city guards must be noble. He quickly bent down in agreement.
