Ye Xingchen couldn't help but murmur to himself, feeling as if this encounter was nothing short of a dream. In the novels he had read, protagonists often had to go through life-and-death struggles to obtain precious legacies. Yet here he was, seemingly favored by the hands of fate, effortlessly grasping this opportunity. He looked at Shen Dongliu, his eyes sparkling with barely concealed joy, but that joy was quickly extinguished by Shen Dongliu's next words.
A sly smile crept onto Shen Dongliu's lips as he spoke slowly, "Of course, there is no such thing as a free lunch in this world. My legacy embodies the essence of the Puppet path. I observe that you do not seem particularly suited for the Puppet way."
Upon hearing this, Ye Xingchen's heart sank slightly as he thought to himself: I knew it wouldn't be that easy. He hurriedly asked, "Senior, what are your conditions?"
Shen Dongliu's expression grew serious as he replied, "My condition is that you find me a true genius who is suitable for cultivating the Puppet path. In exchange, you may choose any other martial arts manuals or techniques related to the Puppet art from my collection. As for pills and divine weapons, many have lost their potency over the years. However, I do have some rare herbs that are millennia old, which I can also gift you."
Ye Xingchen furrowed his brow at this. He realized that the entrance to this relic was extremely hidden; one could only enter by passing the Puppet Trial. Waiting for a powerful figure above the King level to arrive would take an eternity.
He sighed and said, "Senior, with such a secretive entrance to your relic, how can I possibly find a suitable candidate?"
Shen Dongliu smiled slightly, as if he had everything planned out: "What difficulty is there in this? I can lower the difficulty of the entrance; all you need to do is bring your candidate directly inside." After saying this, he casually handed ten precious millennia-old herbs and several sacred-level manuals to Ye Xingchen.
Looking at the treasures in his hands, Ye Xingchen felt a surge of emotions. After hesitating for a moment, he finally asked, "Senior, aren't you afraid that I might take these treasures and disappear without a trace? Or perhaps seek out a master to seize them?"
Shen Dongliu's gaze was piercing, as if he could see into Ye Xingchen's heart: "I have always been good at judging people; you are not someone who would go back on your word. Moreover, although I am merely a soul entity now, if it comes to mutual destruction, even the Great Sage would retreat. I trust that you will not make such an unwise choice."
Ye Xingchen felt touched by these words. Taking a deep breath, he nodded earnestly: "Senior, rest assured; I will do my utmost. Once I find a suitable candidate, I will come back to visit you."
Shen Dongliu smiled faintly, seemingly satisfied with Ye Xingchen's response: "It would be best if you could return within a hundred years. My soul has little time left; once it dissipates, this relic will vanish along with it. At that point, you will no longer be able to find such a precious legacy."
After spending seven days exploring the relics, Ye Xingchen finally set off on his way back. When he arrived at the mysterious stone door, it seemed to sense his return and slowly opened on its own.
Outside stood Shen Zhengping anxiously waiting; his thoughts were consumed by endless worry until the moment the stone door opened and pulled him back into reality.
Seeing Ye Xingchen emerge safely from within, Shen Zhengping hurried forward with concern evident in his expression: "Brother Ye! You’re finally back!"
Ye Xingchen smiled in response: "Thank you for your concern, Shen Brother. This time in the relic has indeed been quite fruitful."
Understanding that this was not a place for detailed discussions, Shen Zhengping quickly led Ye Xingchen away from the entrance. They joined other members of the Shen Family and headed towards the ancestral hall.
Upon reaching the hall, Shen Zhengping dismissed everyone else and left only Ye Xingchen behind. The two sat facing each other as the atmosphere grew serious and solemn.
