Xu Jiaolong glared at Cai Ling, her eyes filled with a deep sense of disappointment and anger. Cai Ling had always been her teammate, a friend. She had hoped that Ku Zhan would surrender, given his weak character. But Cai Ling had always been strong-willed, especially towards her comrades. As a woman, she showed no signs of weakness when facing human enemies or beasts, standing shoulder to shoulder with her companions.
Yet now, she had become the traitor! This was something Xu Jiaolong found utterly incomprehensible and infuriating.
Cai Ling spat out blood, her delicate face etched with fear and regret as she lay on the ground, pleading with Xu Jiaolong. "Captain, I just made a mistake in the heat of the moment! Everyone is fine; we only sustained some injuries. Please spare me! Anyone would have made that decision in my place! We came to this dangerous Wan Beast Abyss to hunt beasts and gather cultivation resources. If we die so easily, how can we ever cultivate?"
Cai Ling only wanted to survive; she felt no guilt for what had happened. She hadn’t anticipated that the two newcomers would be so powerful, leading to this situation. All she felt was regret and frustration.
Xu Jiaolong didn’t know what to say. The betrayal lay solely with the three of them; the others would stand together in life or death! "Cai Ling, I misjudged you!" she exclaimed as she quickened her pace, drawing her sword. The blade flashed through the cold wind, cutting down Cai Ling’s head amidst the dark jungle.
Turning around, she addressed the remaining members solemnly: "Those who betray the Godslayer Squad shall be executed! Including myself."
The others nodded heavily. The remaining seven were all comrades who had fought together against their enemies in dire situations; perhaps betrayal felt distant to them. Despite being ambushed at night and sustaining serious injuries, they knew their rewards would be plentiful—two small teams meant plenty of treasures.
Every team possessed space rings; it was time to check what they had gathered.
Xu Jiaolong spoke cheerfully as they began to search the battlefield. "This time, we’ve acquired more than ever before."
The group responded excitedly and started to clean up the area. Yu Ziling showed little interest and moved slowly, merely going through the motions. Lin Feng, on the other hand, was fully focused on his cultivation.
After gathering their spoils, they sat together in a circle. Xu Jiaolong smiled and said, "What we gained this time surpasses anything we've ever collected before."
"We should head back. First, we've obtained what we wanted, exchanging it for medicine and spirit stones, so cultivating for a while will be no problem. Second, we're all injured, and if we continue deeper into the Wan Beast Abyss, encountering a few more Third-Grade Monsters would be enough to leave us severely wounded. Not to mention there are other human factions eyeing our team!
This time is crucial. What do you all think?" Xu Jiaolong stated plainly, expressing her thoughts.
As her words fell, everyone nodded in agreement with Xu Jiaolong. However, Lin Feng and Yu Ziling remained silent.
Lin Feng's eyes showed no ripples as he calmly spoke, "Captain, I want to stay in the Wan Beast Abyss for a while longer."
"I feel the same!" Yu Ziling chimed in, seemingly waiting for Lin Feng to speak before adding her agreement.
Their decision surprised Xu Jiaolong and the others. After experiencing so much, they still wished to remain in the Wan Beast Abyss.
"Lin Brothers, Miss Ziling, the Wan Beast Abyss is extremely dangerous. If you choose not to return with us, you'll have to rely on each other. Encountering powerful beasts or formidable teams could lead to serious peril. It's better to come back with us, rest for a bit, and then we can venture deeper together. Plus, we could recruit three capable Power Martial Realm practitioners along the way. That would ensure our safety!"
Xu Jiaolong was naturally trying to persuade them; she worried that Lin Feng and Yu Ziling were being somewhat reckless and not taking the dangers of the Wan Beast Abyss seriously.
This time, Lin Feng deliberately chose not to respond immediately but remained silent instead. He wanted to see how Yu Ziling would react.
Yu Ziling didn’t think much of it; she simply replied coolly, "Captain, I appreciate your concern, but my decision is firm—I want to stay in the Wan Beast Abyss."
As her words fell, before anyone could respond, an icy aura emanated from Yu Ziling once again as a cold wind swept through. Her figure then vanished mysteriously.
This left everyone in shock!
This Miss Ziling truly was a bit strange! Contributing so much to the Godslayer Squad yet asking for nothing in return before turning to leave.
Perhaps they would give her what she deserved later on.
Xu Jiaolong had seen many things and had learned from True Martial Realm experts. Yet she had never encountered someone as peculiar and mysterious as Yu Ziling.
"Lin Brothers, I hope you won’t be stubborn about this," she urged. "Though your strength is impressive among the younger generation and you can slay peak Qi Wu Realm foes using secret techniques, venturing alone into the Wan Beast Abyss is akin to courting death."
Yang Hu felt a strong connection to Lin Feng and quickly inquired about his plans. The others also expressed their hope that Lin Feng would return with them, eagerly agreeing with Yang Hu.
"My companions, though we have only spent a few days together, we have experienced so much," Lin Feng began. "I understand your concerns, but I came to the Wan Beast Abyss for the purpose of honing my skills. Therefore, I cannot return with you all, and I will not partake in any shared rewards."
He continued, "After all, you have all been injured and will need to spend some spirit stones to acquire healing elixirs." Unlike Yu Ziling, who often seemed strange, Lin Feng patiently explained his reasoning to the group.
The members of the Godslayer Squad exchanged shocked glances. They had already seen the dangers they faced, yet he still chose to venture alone. Was this confidence or arrogance? Moreover, he refused any rewards despite having saved their lives.
In their eyes, Lin Feng's figure seemed even more imposing. Xu Jiaolong quickly spoke up, "Are you sure about this? Any misstep could lead to dire consequences. You are so young and possess such talent; this decision is not wise."
Standing tall with a sword at his waist, Lin Feng smiled brightly. "The green mountains remain unchanged, and the flowing waters will last forever! I will always be a member of the Godslayer Squad. This is merely a temporary farewell; we shall meet again someday."
As he spoke, Lin Feng turned and walked deeper into the Wan Beast Abyss. "Lin Brothers, if you encounter any difficulties, come find me. Wherever Gun King is, that is where I will be!"
Though Xu Jiaolong did not fully understand Lin Feng's choice, he respected him and admired such a young man who faced unknown dangers without a hint of fear.
As Lin Feng waved goodbye while walking away, he soon disappeared into the darkness. From this moment on, the seven members of the Godslayer Squad would go their separate ways, each following their own destiny.
