Yan Kongyue led Lin Qian and Huo Jingyu into the old Taoist's room, where they discovered the entrance to a hidden chamber beneath the bed.
As they opened the door, a foul stench of excrement and decaying flesh assaulted their senses.
"Ugh, what a horrible smell! How could this old man stand it?" Huo Jingyu grimaced, trying to suppress his nausea while making a sarcastic remark.
"Yuck!" Yan Kongyue turned and bolted outside, nearly retching at the doorway. Thankfully, she hadn't eaten dinner yet, so nothing came up.
"Wait for me! I'm going down with Huo Jingyu to take a look!" Lin Qian pulled a cloth from her pocket and covered her face.
"Hold on!" Yan Kongyue rummaged through her small bag and pulled out a tiny medicine bottle, shaking out three pills.
"Put this in your mouth!" She handed one to Lin Qian, kept one for herself, and gave the last one to Huo Jingyu.
As the pills dissolved in their mouths, a refreshing sensation spread within them, mingled with a faint floral fragrance that masked the earlier nausea and cleared their minds.
Noticing Lin Qian's gaze, Yan Kongyue shrugged. "I was careless earlier. This is Leng Xiang Wan; it can block the stench for half an hour. We need to hurry; there are still living people down there!"
The three quickly returned to the old Taoist's room, and indeed, the foul odor had been replaced by the scent of flowers.
The hidden chamber was about ten meters below ground. As they descended, they found a small space illuminated by a dim oil lamp with a flickering flame.
On the ground lay four people. The two at the back were emaciated, resembling dried corpses with open mouths—breathing in but not out—like fish gasping for air in a dried-up riverbed.
One in the middle still had some flesh on him but was barely breathing, while the one on the edge appeared to have been imprisoned not long ago; he seemed slightly better off than the others, as his loose skin indicated he had once been overweight.
In truth, he wasn’t much better off; if it weren't for his excess weight, he might have already perished.
"Hurry, we need to get them out!" Yan Kongyue had already put on gloves while descending the stairs and wasted no time as she moved forward to lift two of them.
Lin Qian and Huo Jingyu each took one person and exited the hidden chamber.
In the courtyard, Yan Kongyue was using her spiritual energy to treat the two individuals.
Lin Qian and Huo Jingyu laid them side by side.
"Quickly, focus your minds and heal them!"
Upon hearing this, Lin Qian and Huo Jingyu immediately composed themselves and began chanting incantations.
Golden light enveloped the individuals on the ground. Yan Xiao Jun watched in astonishment; it turned out they could do this too.
Seeing Yan Xiao Jun's expression, Yan Kongyue smiled faintly. "Are you envious?"
"Yes!" Yan Xiao Jun admitted somewhat sheepishly but decided to speak honestly.
"You can do it too!"
"What?"
"I mean, if you want to, you can!"
"Really?"
"Of course!"
"What do I need to do?"
"As long as you're willing, there's nothing you need to do!"
"I'm willing!"
"Great! Once I'm done here, I'll set you up at the hotel!"
"Okay!"
"Captain, captain, what's up? Why are you so happy?" Warmth actually wanted to say, "You look like a fool with that smile," but she didn't dare.
