Lin Qian thought there might be a mouse, so he crouched down to look under the bed where the bodies were kept: no mouse at all!
Crunch, crunch! The sound resembled someone chewing on crispy bones, and it was clear that whatever was being eaten was quite delicious.
There was a small door in Tai Jian, leading to a storage room that was currently lit. Huo Jingyu assumed someone inside was having a meal and glanced over a couple of times but didn’t dare to approach.
Yan Kongyue had been silent since entering Tai Jian, fixated on the row of cold storage units before him. The cold storage units had square doors made of stainless steel. After Lin Qian finished checking under the bed, he stood up, intending to call out to Yan Kongyue and Huo Jingyu to leave when he suddenly swallowed hard, stumbling back against the wall.
What’s wrong? Huo Jingyu thought Lin Qian had lost his balance and reached out to steady him.
Ah!!! Lin Qian reflexively jumped to the side, his eyes fixed intently on the direction of the cold storage.
Damn, what scared you? I’m a person! Huo Jingyu noticed Lin Qian’s expression and followed his gaze, his unfinished words quickly changing tone: It’s not a ghost or anything!
Right in front of them, the surface of the cold storage unit looked like a television screen, showing an old lady gnawing on an arm. Despite its stainless steel surface, the image was still clear.
Gui Lao Tai had scant hair and a face covered in strange wrinkles; her blood-red mouth revealed sharp teeth, with a vein hanging from between them. Her two dry hands had long, pointed nails caked with blood and flesh.
Yan Kongyue glanced at the two men who were huddled together screaming: Shh! Two grown men shouldn’t be yelling so loudly! After saying this, he stepped sideways in front of them, blocking their view with his body.
Though his tone was dismissive, there was something oddly reassuring about it that instantly calmed both men, silencing them as they still craned their necks to sneak another look.
Not coming out! A cold voice echoed in Tai Jian.
Gui Lao Tai, who was busy gnawing on her fingers, smacked her lips and completely ignored Yan Kongyue.
Unbothered by being ignored, Yan Kongyue stepped forward and grabbed Gui Lao Tai by the neck.
Ah! Ghosts don’t need to breathe! Yan Kongyue squeezed tightly; the bone Gui Lao Tai had just swallowed got lodged in her throat, stuck neither up nor down, causing her to glare angrily at Yan Kongyue.
Hiss! The grip made Lin Qian and Huo Jingyu watching feel pain as well; however, seeing Gui Lao Tai being restrained made their remaining fear dissipate.
Why are you grabbing me? A sharp and furious voice squeezed out from Gui Lao Tai’s bloodied mouth.
Why do you think? Yan Kongyue’s arm moved as he yanked Gui Lao Tai harshly from the cold storage door, accompanied by her pained shrieks.
A golden light shot towards the door of Tai Jian; neither Lin Qian nor Huo Jingyu noticed Yan Kongyue's actions as with a loud bang, the door slammed shut. The doorknob turned slightly, and suddenly everything in Tai Jian felt different.
Gui Lao Tai dangled in mid-air, flailing her limbs but unable to reach Yan Kongyue at all.
Old hag, looks like you’ve been raised wrong; do you even know how dangerous your situation is now?
Just based on you? The sharp voice screeched back.
Tai Jian was under a ban from Yan Kongyue, and the sounds from outside could not reach her. With that, she felt no need to hold back.
What else could she do? Yan Kongyue threw Gui Lao Tai to the ground, and he immediately crumpled like a puddle of mud, unable to move as he lay there.
Gui Lao Tai looked at Yan Kongyue with an expression of disbelief, his voice trembling as he asked, "Who... who are you?"
Think carefully before you ask. Once you know who I am, you will be nothing but ashes!
