He Dad walked over with two cups of water, but they were both for Yan Kongyue and Lin Lang.
"Wait a moment, dear, I'll pour you some water," he said.
"No need, no need. Look at the medicine; my mouth is full of its flavor. I don’t need water," He Mama opened her mouth to show her partner.
"Oh, it feels so much better now. Finally, I can breathe properly," He Mama said, her eyes reddening again.
"Auntie, you shouldn't get too emotional right now," one of the young people cautioned.
"Children, are you classmates of He Bin from university? A few days ago, his high school friends came by to do laundry and clean the house, and they even made us a feast," she continued.
"Uncle and Auntie, actually, it was He Bin who asked us to come," one of them explained.
"What?" He Bin's parents exchanged surprised glances and then turned to Yan Kongyue.
"He's right here in this room. Do you want to see him?"
"What did you say?" He Mama leaned closer to Yan Kongyue, tears streaming down her face. She had heard clearly but still couldn’t believe it.
Yan Kongyue remained silent and gently wiped her eyes with her hand.
He Mama stared at Yan Kongyue in shock, frozen in place.
"Auntie, look over there!" Yan Kongyue pointed to the floor in front of the coffee table.
He Mama slowly turned her head, still unable to believe what she was hearing. When she saw Yan Kongyue nodding, she finally looked toward the coffee table.
He Bin was kneeling on the floor with his head bowed. Though he was now a ghost without tears, he still felt heartbroken.
"My son! My dear son!" He Mama raised her arm to cover half her face and began to sob uncontrollably.
"Mom, it's your unfilial son!"
"Dear, I can see our son! Where is he?"
Yan Kongyue hurried over as He Dad wiped his eyes.
"You rascal! You little scoundrel!" He Dad stepped over to He Bin. Initially thinking he would slap him, he instead just patted his thigh and cried.
"What a sin this is! You foolish child!"
"Dad, it's all my fault."
Auntie Yan Kongyue noticed that He Mama had fallen silent and quickly pressed the acupoint on her upper lip, channeling some spiritual energy into her. Only then did He Mama awaken. To prevent her from getting too agitated, Yan Kongyue had given her a pill in advance, but she still underestimated the pain a mother feels when losing a child.
He Bin suddenly appeared on the sofa, but he couldn't touch his mother's body at all. His father, He Dad, was also panicking.
At that moment, the door was pushed open from the outside, and hearing the commotion inside, a figure rushed in.
"Mom, what happened? Who are you all?"
He Mama woke up and, ignoring her youngest son, turned to look at He Bin beside her, crying even harder.
"Silly child, why are you thinking like this? Are you trying to take your mother's life?"
Upon hearing this, He Xuan, who had just entered, froze in place.
"Xuan'er, it's your brother! Your brother has come!" He Dad said, hunched over with tears streaming down his face.
"My brother is here?" He Xuan stared intently in the direction of his mother but couldn't see anything.
"Come here!" Yan Kongyue waved at He Xuan.
He Xuan didn't understand why she was calling him but walked over awkwardly. Yan Kongyue brushed something off his eyes. Caught off guard, He Xuan instinctively stepped back. But after a wave of coolness washed over him, he saw He Bin kneeling on the sofa.
"Brother, is it really you?"
He Bin nodded shamefully.
