"Ah? We have a daughter?" Lin Ruyu exclaimed, his voice rising in surprise.
Lin Jingxuan, anxiously making a phone call, accidentally switched to speakerphone without realizing it. Although he was at the door, the sound of the conversation came through clearly: "Yes! Hurry up!"
"Got it! I'll have my assistant arrange a flight right away."
"Great, great!"
As Lin Jingxuan turned around, he noticed everyone in the hospital room was staring at him.
"Dad, calm down!" Lin Zhuo said, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"I can't calm down! Your mother has given birth to three of you and not a single daughter until now. Now that we finally have a daughter, if I don't tell her soon, she'll definitely scratch me when she gets back!" As soon as he finished speaking, everyone in the room burst into laughter; their feelings were all the same.
"Have you noticed? Yan Kongyue looks a bit like Dad when he was young!" Uncle Da couldn't bear to let go of Yan Kongyue's hand, gripping it so tightly that it was starting to sweat.
"Huh? It does seem like it!" Lin Jingxuan didn't really want to admit it, but the more he looked, the more he saw the resemblance.
Even the old man kept staring at Yan Kongyue, a familiar figure appearing in his mind. However, as time passed, he could no longer remember what that person looked like.
"Yan Kongyue, how old are you this year?" Shen Yun casually asked.
"I'm 18," Yan Kongyue replied, revealing her age from her ID card.
"One year younger than Lin Qian."
"And your birthday?"
"Sixteenth day of the first month!"
"That's a good birthday; it brings good fortune!" Something flashed through the old man's mind, but his age made it difficult for him to grasp it.
"Grandpa, are you really trying to get close to her this way? She's my lifesaver!" Lin Qian finally spoke up after being overlooked.
"Right, right! Thanks to Lin Qian, our family has gained another daughter!" Uncle Da was practically ready to shove Yan Kongyue into his eyes while talking to Lin Qian but was still looking at Yan Kongyue.
"Yan Kongyue, this card is for you," Uncle San said. "We've also prepared a villa for you right next door to the Lin Family. If you're not comfortable living with us, you can stay there."
"Cough cough! You all are too generous; really, there's no need for so much!" Yan Kongyue finally managed to pull her hand away from Uncle Da's grip; it had gone numb from being held so tightly.
"And there's Grandpa's..." Before the old man could finish his sentence, they heard the urgent sound of a fire truck siren outside.
"A fire truck?" Lin Zhuo's alertness kicked in as he quickly walked to the window.
"I didn't hear any fire alarm!" Lin Feng also moved toward the window.
The fire truck stopped at the base of the hospital building, flanked by two police cars with flashing lights.
"Someone's about to jump!" Yan Kongyue suddenly stood up and strode toward the door.
Lin Zhuo and Lin Feng didn’t hesitate either; they turned and followed him outside.
"Hey, why are you all going out?!" Huo Jin momentarily forgot that his son was in the armed police and his nephew was a police officer; saving people was their duty.
"Dad, hurry! She’s definitely going to save someone. If there’s danger, you need to stop her!"
"Right, right!" Lin Old Man finally realized what was happening, but by the time he stood up, Lin Jingteng had already rushed out.
In the room, only Lin Qian and Shen Yun were left.
Shen Yun's son wanted to follow as well, but he was worried about Lin Qian.
"Mom, help me up!" Lin Qian sat up.
"Son, your injury isn’t healed yet!"
"It’s fine, it doesn’t hurt anymore!"
Shen Yun didn’t say much; she knew her son too well. Even if she didn’t help him, he would still find a way to climb up to the rooftop.
