Until the Prophet predicted that the identity of the murderer was us, the boy began to doubt the authenticity of our Wolf Messenger Identity, which led him to set a fire.
The boy forged a note written by Tan Ming, making it seem like he saw the person who threw the Red Card gathering in the back kitchen that day. When that person arrived, he knocked them out and stuffed them into a cabinet. With the fire set, there was no doubt they would perish.
At that moment, two people burst into the back kitchen: one was a chef, and the other was Xu Le. Upon seeing the boy, Xu Le remarked that the boy seemed uneasy. He also mentioned that he had seen our notebook and knew that it was the boy who had taken Wang Xiaoyan's information.
At that time, the boy was in control of his body. He could sense the mysterious presence, and upon realizing what the boy had done, it immediately took control of the body and for the first time used the Messenger Tool to erase their memories and clean up after the boy.
The three of us could not fathom what the boy was thinking, nor could we understand the mysterious presence. Later on, this presence transferred control of the body to Wen He. Wen He inadvertently discovered an oil stain on his shoe and noticed that half a page was missing from the notebook. Coupled with Qi Qiuluo's comments upon waking up, Wen He could confirm that we were indeed responsible for starting the fire.
Of course, none of us—three or two—could communicate directly through thoughts. Aside from leaving clues on paper to prove we had five personalities, we initially had no knowledge of each other's existence. The notebook allowed us to communicate mentally but also hindered us in many ways. Especially after the boy began to suspect the mysterious presence, many things he knew could no longer be written in the notebook because it would be seen by that presence, which would prevent him from acting.
We confirmed through two clues left by the boy that we were indeed responsible for starting the fire. It seemed that he set it intentionally to make us aware that the murderer was not someone else. Then we witnessed Qi Qiuluo come back to life, leaving us with a significant question: why were those two (at that time we were unsure if it was the mysterious presence or if the boy intended to kill Qi Qiuluo) so special? We thought they were special to both the mysterious presence and the boy. However, if burning Qi Qiuluo was indeed their goal, why destroy the food reserves in the back kitchen? From every angle, we couldn’t justify their actions; ultimately, we reached a consensus: either the mysterious presence or the boy was guilty.
Later on, in a candid moment in the notebook, the boy admitted that he was responsible for starting the fire. Wen He and I were not very clear-headed at that point. Cold-heartedness had distanced our thoughts.
Before setting fire to everything, through various hints and his connection with the mysterious presence, he confirmed that this presence was indeed guilty. He couldn’t directly tell us in the notebook; any action he took would lead to immediate control by that presence. Thus, he set a fire deliberately leaving oil stains on himself and tearing half a page from his notebook to raise our suspicions. At the same time, he locked Qi Qiuluo in a suffocating cabinet for us to witness his miraculous revival. Coupled with subtle traces left in our notebook indicating our Red Card had been swapped out, we realized we were not doctors.
The boy had learned this truth before setting fire; therefore, he anticipated that Qi Qiuluo would not die. However, this action put pressure on Qi Qiuluo and made him aware that his murderer was someone who had picked up his Red Card and was nearby, threatening his life. If Qi Qiuluo did not want to die, he would have to seek out his murderer himself.
This was one of the boy's objectives.
In order to validate the cold-hearted speculation, he attempted to use the Messenger Tool to save Yan Qing after the Mutated Bat pierced her. Previously, the mysterious figure had conveyed through the boy that our Messenger Tool was out of use (as for the instance when the mysterious figure used the Messenger Tool in the kitchen to cover up the boy's act of arson, we were completely unaware). We realized that the mysterious figure had lied to us.
The three of us, along with the boy, came to understand that the mysterious figure was the murderer. However, we were unaware of our Wolf Messenger Identity since we had never seen our Red Card. We were unable to reveal our identities, and once we entertained thoughts of self-destruction, control over our bodies would immediately fall into the hands of the mysterious figure, just as they could accurately predict danger and swiftly reclaim control.
After yet another halted evolution, guided by a suggestion, the boy found the trash can in the teaching building. He retrieved a card from inside, but before he could examine the number on it, his body was taken over by the mysterious figure. When he regained consciousness, he discovered that the number on the card had been scratched off by them.
The boy took the Red Card to Fountain Square and intentionally conveyed through suggestion to the mysterious figure that Qi Qiuluo was aware of their identity as murderers.
