Seeing the displeasure on the faces of the two, Yun Fan grinned, not particularly bothered by Yue Ling Xian Zi's change in demeanor. Instead, he felt a bit of secret joy, relieved that he hadn’t become a disciple of this Grand Elder. If they were all hypocritical individuals, he would probably find it hard to endure.
Without further ado, the group left that place and headed to Yun Fan's courtyard. They took their seats on either side and began sipping tea while engaging in casual conversation.
Feng Qingyang, somewhat puzzled, asked, "Yun Xiong, I don't think I've ever heard you mention having a master."
Yun Fan chuckled at the question but chose not to reveal anything about the Blood Demon Elder. After all, that person's identity was rather special and considered a pariah within the Heavenly Sword Sect.
In a gentle tone, he replied, "I don’t have a master per se; I just received a message advising me not to become a disciple of the Grand Elder. So I had to come up with an excuse to refuse."
Feng Qingyang looked surprised at this revelation but nodded in understanding. "Yun Xiong, since you’re new here, you might not be aware that the Heavenly Sword Sect isn’t as harmonious as it appears on the surface; it’s filled with various internal conflicts."
He continued, "There are essentially two factions: one led by the Sect Leader and the other by the Grand Elder. There’s often friction between them. The main reason for this is that years ago, the Grand Elder was most likely to become the Sect Leader, but Bai Zihua emerged out of nowhere a hundred years ago and seized that position."
"This left the Grand Elder filled with resentment. He has been forming alliances within the Sect against the Leader and even seeks to reclaim or undermine that position."
"After Bai Zihua took over as Sect Leader, he has been formidable and assertive, leading the Heavenly Sword Sect to greater heights and gaining considerable support from many Elders. Therefore, his position has remained very stable."
Both Yun Fan and Zhou Dacong were astonished upon hearing this; they hadn’t expected such backstory within the Heavenly Sword Sect. However, it made sense—wherever there are people, there will be conflict. After all, the Sect Leader holds immense power over the entire Heavenly Sword Sect.
It was entirely normal for the Grand Elder to feel dissatisfied and seek to reclaim authority.
Feng Qingyang looked at Yun Fan and continued, "If my guess is correct, it’s likely that Elders from the Leader's faction don’t want you to become a disciple of the Grand Elder, which is why they sent you that message. After all, you’ve comprehended the Jiu Xiao Sword Technique and qualify to be a disciple of the Sect Leader. Naturally, they wouldn’t want to see such a talent fall under the Grand Elder’s tutelage."
Yun Fan nodded in agreement. He had previously heard from Feng Qingyang that only two individuals in the entire Heavenly Sword Sect had comprehended the Jiu Xiao Sword Technique: one was himself and the other was the Sect Leader. Given his demonstrated understanding of it rivaling that of the Leader's, it was only natural for him to be taken seriously and possibly even accepted as a disciple by the Sect Leader.
However, from the words exchanged, it was clear that Feng Qingyang had little interest in the Grand Elder's faction, even harboring some disdain.
Speaking of his father, Feng Xiaotian, he was likely one of the elders among the Sect Leader's faction.
With a smile on his face, Feng Qingyang said, "Yun Xiong, once the Sect Leader arrives, I believe he will take you as his disciple. Your status will be very high, and no one will dare to provoke you."
Upon hearing this, Yun Fan felt a bitter smile creeping onto his face. Becoming the Sect Leader's disciple would undoubtedly make him a thorn in the side of the Grand Elder's faction. He had no desire to get entangled in sect disputes.
All he wanted was to grow stronger, to have the power to protect himself and his loved ones, and to venture into a broader world rather than remain in the Heavenly Sword Sect embroiled in internal conflicts.
Yet, at present, his strength was too weak; he wasn't qualified to control his own fate. If the Sect Leader were to accept him as a disciple, he would have no way to refuse. After rejecting the Grand Elder, if he were to turn down the Sect Leader as well, it would be nearly impossible for him to survive in the Heavenly Sword Sect.
