In the military camp, the night was as dark as ink, with only a few scattered lights flickering. An Lushan and Li Bai stood side by side, their shadows stretching long in the moonlight, as if foretelling the impending storm that would sweep through the entire court.
"Lushan brother, we can't stand idly by any longer," Li Bai spoke with a low and resolute voice, gazing into the distance with a determined gleam in his eyes.
An Lushan nodded, his eyes also shining with a sharp light. "Taibai brother, you are right. We cannot allow those villains to frame us. It's time to take action."
Two people exchanged a smile, with a kind of understanding in their eyes. They knew that the next plan needed to be cautious and meticulous, as a slight mistake could lead to a point of no return.
"Brother Lushan, where do you think we should start?" asked Li Bai.
An Lushan pondered for a moment and slowly replied, "First, we need to find out the source of the rumor. Only by knowing his identity and purpose can we formulate a targeted plan."
"You're right," nodded Li Bai in agreement, "but how do we find him?"
An Lushan smiled slightly, a hint of cunning in his eyes, "We can use the connections of that influential minister's confidant in the court. I believe he must be in contact with certain people. As long as we follow the trail, we can find the person spreading the rumors."
"Great idea!" Li Bai's eyes showed a hint of approval, "So what should we do next?"
An Lushan took a deep breath and slowly exhaled, "First, we need to gather all the information about that important minister's confidant, including his whereabouts, associates, and his weaknesses. Then, we can use this information to devise a meticulous plan."
"I understand," Li Bai nodded in understanding, "I'll take care of this matter. I will gather the necessary information as soon as possible."
After the two men agreed on the plan, they each busied themselves. Li Bai used his connections in the court to secretly investigate the whereabouts and associates of the important minister's confidant. Meanwhile, An Lushan utilized his prestige in the military to secretly gather a group of elite soldiers, ready to act at any time.
After several days of secret investigation, Li Bai finally gathered detailed information about the trusted aide of that senior minister. He discovered that this aide's name was Wang Fu, a powerful official in the court. He had close connections with several senior ministers and often conspired in secret, attempting to overturn the case for that senior minister.
Li Bai shared this information with An Lushan, and they began to discuss how to devise a meticulous plan to deal with Wang Fu. After some discussion, they decided to employ the strategy of "murder with a borrowed knife."
"Lushan brother, we can use Wang Fu's ambition and greed against him," Li Bai said. "We can spread some false information, claiming that the emperor is preparing to promote a new senior minister to balance the power in the court. Once this news spreads, Wang Fu will surely be tempted."
An Lushan nodded, "You're right. We can use this information to lure Wang Fu into revealing his true colors. But we need to find a suitable candidate to play the role of this new important minister."
"I've already thought of someone," Li Bai said with a slight smile. "We can find an official in the court with low prestige but ambitious aspirations to play this role. He will surely do everything in his power to gain the emperor's favor."
"Good idea!" An Lushan's eyes flashed with a hint of approval. "Then I'll leave this matter to you to handle. I will secretly gather soldiers to support your actions."
Soon, Li Bai found a suitable candidate - an official in the court named Zhao Gao. He was ambitious but lacked high prestige, always eager to gain the emperor's recognition and promotion. Li Bai secretly approached Zhao Gao and revealed the plan to him. Upon hearing that this plan could earn him the emperor's favor and promotion, Zhao Gao immediately and ecstatically agreed.
Under Li Bai's manipulation, a false rumor began to spread in the court: the emperor was preparing to promote a new minister to balance the power in the court, and the chosen candidate was Zhao Gao. This news quickly reached Wang Fu, who indeed became intrigued as Li Bai had anticipated.
Wang Fu began to secretly contact Zhao Gao, attempting to win him over as an ally. Following Li Bai's instructions, Zhao Gao deliberately acted hesitant and indecisive, making Wang Fu believe that he had an opportunity to exploit.
While Wang Fu and Zhao Gao were secretly colluding, An Lushan also secretly gathered a group of elite soldiers, ready to act at any moment. They were waiting for a signal from Li Bai, and once the time was right, they would act immediately.
Finally, one evening, Li Bai received accurate information: Wang Fu and Zhao Gao would meet again at the banquet the next night to discuss their plans. He immediately informed An Lushan of this news.
"It's time to act!" An Lushan's eyes flashed with a sharp light. "We will make our move at the banquet tomorrow night!"
So, at the banquet the next evening, while Wang Fu and Zhao Gao were secretly discussing countermeasures, An Lushan suddenly led a group of elite soldiers into the banquet hall. They quickly subdued Wang Fu and Zhao Gao and took them away from the scene.
After interrogation, it was revealed that Wang Fu and Zhao Gao were indeed colluding in secret and attempting to overturn the case for that senior official. Upon learning of this, the emperor was furious and ordered the two to be thrown into the dungeon and never to be pardoned.
The storm of the court finally subsided temporarily, but An Lushan and Li Bai knew that this was only the beginning. They knew that more challenges and difficulties were waiting for them, but they also believed that as long as they united and moved forward courageously, they would surely overcome all difficulties and achieve ultimate victory!
