"I don't need to verify the funds; I'll buy it directly," Jiang Chen said as he took out his bank card and walked over. The attendant brought out the POS machine, and without any hesitation, Jiang Chen swiped his card to pay.
Seeing Jiang Chen actually make the purchase without a second thought, the attendant was overjoyed and immediately became enthusiastic.
Businesspeople love clients like Jiang Chen, who are generous with their spending. The attendant removed the diamond necklace and personally brought it in front of Lin Jingzhu, saying she would help put it on. Lin Jingzhu looked at Jiang Chen, feeling a bit shy as she said, "Jiang Chen, this gift is too extravagant."
"As long as you like it," Jiang Chen replied gently with a smile.
"Jingzhu, Jiang is so good to you; I’m envious! Jiang, can we really choose whatever we want?" Zhou Xuemei chimed in.
"Feel free to choose; after all, you’re Jingzhu's classmates," Jiang Chen laughed.
Though Jiang Chen said this, aside from the diamond necklace, which was quite expensive, the other jewelry in the store was mostly priced in the tens of thousands. Zhou Xuemei and the others felt a bit awkward about picking anything too pricey and ended up choosing some accessories worth around ten thousand.
People can be greedy, but Zhou Xuemei and her friends knew Jiang Chen was wealthy and felt embarrassed to accept more of his generosity. Jiang Chen didn’t say much either; after settling the bill, everyone left with their treasures.
Lin Jingzhu was surrounded by her female classmates, who were all singing Jiang Chen's praises. When she heard them refer to her relationship with Jiang Chen as that of a couple, she feigned annoyance but felt quite happy inside. Especially considering that all of Jiang Chen's actions today were for her. Although their relationship could never return to what it once was, Lin Jingzhu was still pleased that Jiang Chen was willing to spend money on her.
Mark was utterly shocked and at a loss for words; he never expected Jiang Chen to be so wealthy. He had intended to show off today but ended up being overshadowed by Jiang Chen instead. Seeing Lin Jingzhu accept all of Jiang Chen's gifts, especially that fifteen-million-dollar diamond necklace, Mark felt a surge of jealousy.
"This guy is just a high school classmate of Lin Jingzhu’s; he must be from a small county in Huaxia Nation. How can I, a rich second generation from a great empire, be outdone by some upstart from a small town?" Mark thought indignantly.
In his mind, Mark tried to find faults with Jiang Chen to balance his feelings. He had invited Jiang Chen along to highlight his own greatness, but in this first encounter, he had been completely defeated.
"I can't let this continue; I must regain my face," Mark silently vowed.
Returning to the Golden Coast Resort Hotel, night had fallen. The only consolation for Mark was that he stayed halfway up the mountain while Jiang Chen was at the foot.
Around seven in the evening, as lights began to twinkle on, Zhou Xuemei and the others rented barbecue supplies and held a small barbecue party on the beach. Lin Jingzhu's classmates were mostly fine except for Mark. If Jiang Chen had lived in his previous life like these people, he would probably have spent his days working, getting married, having children, and worrying about daily necessities.
The beach was bustling with people holding barbecue parties—some locals from Hong Kong Island and some tourists. The summer night remained warm and humid; hence most people wore light clothing—men with bare arms in beach shorts and many women in bikinis. Lin Jingzhu and her friends weren’t quite that daring but still dressed lightly in shorts and T-shirts.
