In the afternoon, the Prime Minister personally visited the prison. He looked at his son, who was imprisoned, and couldn't help but sigh. "You are the Top Scholar of the Xia Kingdom, yet now you find yourself a prisoner in a foreign land! How can you still have the face to ask for a meeting? This time, there is no need for concern about being rescued!"
"Dad, it's not that I want you to intervene in this matter. I believe you shouldn't gamble!" Mu Jinkun insisted. "Jiang Han and Su Qianxue are untrustworthy!"
Mu Jinkun spoke with conviction, "I have gambled against them many times, and each time they were in a losing position, yet they won every time! We must not be fooled. In this upcoming battle, Jiang Han will surely provide new weapons for Su Qianxue's army!"
"Dad, listen to me. Let's not gamble; instead, we should mobilize our troops and force Su Qianxue to agree to our terms!"
"Ah, Mu Jinkun," the Prime Minister murmured, seemingly unaware of what his son had experienced during these past few months under the Great Zhou Dynasty. It seemed that after losing a few times, he had lost his former courage.
The Prime Minister shook his head slightly, utterly disappointed in his son. The Mu Jinkun of yesteryears was spirited and ambitious, having achieved the title of Top Scholar with great pride. Now, however, he appeared dejected and filled with despair.
"Dad, I beg you! Please don't be fooled! This is truly problematic; it’s a lesson I’ve paid dearly for!" Mu Jinkun was on the verge of tears. "Why won't you listen?"
The Prime Minister felt a deep sorrow as he looked at Mu Jinkun; his eyes reflected nothing but disappointment. He no longer wished to discuss the gambling issue. The stakes were too high this time, and victory seemed assured.
"Fifteen thousand troops cannot defeat five thousand?" he thought to himself. If he voiced this concern aloud, it would surely draw laughter from across the land. Moreover, it was crucial to note that while five thousand troops were guarding the city and its passes, his own elite force of fifteen thousand should logically have the upper hand.
However, they were about to engage in battle; if his fifteen thousand could not overcome five thousand, then surely no one would accept that outcome.
The Prime Minister realized that his son had become utterly defeated in spirit. He crossed his arms and said to Mu Jinkun, "Just wait a few days; I will bring you out of here!"
"No," he continued resolutely. "I want Su Qianxue to respectfully invite you out of here herself. Then she can clean herself up and take care of you!"
"Dad, are you still asleep?" Mu Jinkun asked, bewildered.
With a loud slap, the Prime Minister struck Mu Jinkun's face. "You ungrateful child! How can you expect to win with a mere fifty thousand against one hundred fifty thousand?"
He continued, "In the previous battles, even if I put a pig in charge, we would win. What more can you expect with me personally commanding?"
"Dad, Jiang Han is problematic. Please think it over!" Mu Jinkun said, covering his face and displaying a pitiful expression.
The Prime Minister sighed and shook his head, muttering, "You've become nothing but a useless fool!"
"Prime Minister, you really need to reconsider," Jiu Gong interjected. "Jiang Han and Su Qianxue are clearly setting us up!"
At this point, the Prime Minister was in command of the army, but Jiu Gong's forces had already been depleted, leaving him with no choice but to plead.
With a long sigh and a look of deep disdain on his face, the Prime Minister surveyed Mu Jinkun and Jiu Gong. "You two are quite the pair! A female general on the battlefield and a top scholar from Xia Kingdom! Yet here you are in this small Great Zhou Dynasty, terrified by just Jiang Han and Su Qianxue! It's truly pathetic!"
He turned and walked out.
Wen Xinhong, who had been standing at the cell door, followed him. Although he was one of Jiu Gong's men, he was also under the Prime Minister's command.
Jiu Gong and Mu Jinkun sat there in silence, feeling as though their lives had been turned upside down. Though they couldn't articulate how they would be defeated in this battle, they both sensed that failure was inevitable.
On the surface, it seemed like an easy victory: one hundred fifty thousand against fifty thousand. But Jiang Han would surely unveil new tactics that the Chancellor wouldn't believe in.
In despair, Jiu Gong murmured to himself.
Mu Jinkun lamented, "I just know that one day I will be in this cell watching my Chancellor father!" He wished fervently that his father would stop gambling and quickly rescue him so they could return home together.
"What should we do?" Jiu Gong looked at Mu Jinkun.
"I can't help it anymore!" Mu Jinkun shook his head.
"You two! A mere Jiang Han has frightened you to this extent?"
Wen Xinhong turned back and said, "The Chancellor asked me to persuade Mu Jinkun and to advise Jiu Gong."
He spoke at length, "The Chancellor has already issued orders for the fifteen Wan Dajun to be composed of one hundred thousand cavalry and fifty thousand infantry. In a real battle, I can't imagine any strategy that could allow fifty thousand men to defeat my fifteen Wan Dajun! My fifteen Wan Dajun have the combat strength equivalent to twenty-five Wan Dajun of the Great Zhou Dynasty! With one hundred fifty thousand soldiers, all seasoned veterans, in this situation, I believe there is no possibility of defeat. The odds are a hundred percent; we cannot lose."
Seeing this scene, Mu Jinkun and Jiu Gong did not argue. Mu Jinkun directly stated, "Don't place any bets; you will definitely lose. I can't explain why we would lose! But just knowing that those you're betting against are Jiang Han and Su Qianxue guarantees your defeat!"
Wen Xinhong revealed a disdainful expression and moved closer. She embraced Jiu Gong and said, "Your Highness, someone like Mu Jinkun is no longer worthy of being your man. From now on, I will take care of you."
Jiu Gong replied directly, "No, the palace believes you may not have long to live!"
Wen Xinhong was taken aback. "Considering the few times you and the palace have shared a bed," she continued, "let me give you some advice: do not personally lead the troops against Su Qianxue's army."
Jiu Gong spoke sincerely; the palace had already resigned after losing so many times.
Upon hearing this, Wen Xinhong sighed and displayed a look of disdain. "You really have lost your spirit! Just as the Chancellor said, your courage has been shattered by Jiang Han and Su Qianxue! I not only want to crush them; I want to personally take Jiang Han's life."
"Ninth Prince, trust me. Mu Jinkun cannot provide you with happiness; I, Wen Xinhong, can!"
