"Enough with the act. I don't care whether your signal is genuinely bad or just a ruse. If I don't see you by this afternoon, I'll start investigating what Liuzi mentioned. You should know that even if Liuzi is dead, handling this matter shouldn't be difficult for me."
I hung up the phone after saying that.
So, you want to play games with me? We'll see if I feel like indulging you.
I yawned twice after ending the call. I wouldn't be surprised if Fang Ying was cursing me right now. I chuckled and lay back on the sofa, quietly waiting for her to come see me. I knew she would definitely come.
Sure enough, when I opened my eyes again, it was already afternoon, and Fang Ying was sitting beside me, smiling as she looked at me.
"Yan Shao Ye, you're awake? I was out running errands all morning. You called me, but before I could make sense of anything, you hung up. Just be honest with me—are you mad? Don't be so petty."
Fang Ying said sweetly, and now that she was in front of me, she had to act coy. Seeing her trying to feign innocence made me want to laugh.
Did she really think she could lie to me at this point? She had clearly heard what I said; otherwise, why would she come?
I believed that even though she had come, she was well-prepared and ready to avoid any further confrontation.
"Heh, it's been several days since I've seen you. I've missed you terribly," I said with a grin as I reached out my hand to her. Fang Ying didn't refuse and let me pull her into my embrace. As soon as I held her close, she shyly apologized, "Sorry, Yan Shao Ye. I've been so busy these past few days. Today... today I got my period."
I scoffed inwardly; I knew it was just another excuse!
Fang Ying must have been under a lot of pressure from me. Just thinking about it satisfied my mischievous side greatly.
While I was happy, I still had to let Fang Ying off the hook; after all, this had started as just a joke.
Holding her close, I said in a tender yet shameless tone, "Honestly, whether that matters or not is irrelevant; I just enjoy having you by my side."
As soon as those words left my mouth, I felt her tremble slightly in my arms; clearly, my words had caught her off guard.
"Oh? Really? Then it’s truly an honor for me," she replied with a smile that seemed somewhat stiff. Her acting skills were honestly lacking.
"Oh? Since you feel honored, how about spending a honeymoon with me?"
I asked playfully, and Fang Ying froze on the spot. Watching her reaction made me want to tease her even more.
A honeymoon?
Fang Ying was suddenly taken aback. If this was a honeymoon, there would be no way for her to escape this situation, right? After all, the duration of a honeymoon was long enough for her to rely on her aunt's visit.
"Well, what do you think?" I asked with a smile, feeling quite mischievous at that moment. Yes, mischievous! It felt exhilarating.
"I think it might not be very appropriate," Fang Ying said with a troubled expression.
I frowned immediately, feeling displeased. "Didn’t you say you felt honored? Are you lying to me?"
Fang Ying quickly became a bit nervous and then rolled her eyes, continuing to ramble, "No! How could that be? What I meant was, Yan Shao Ye, you just came to Qing Gang and just arrived at Tian Ye Group. You should still be under Lu Laoye's scrutiny. If you abandon your work and run off to mess around with me, Lu Laoye would definitely be unhappy. Even if he doesn’t say anything about you, he would surely vent his anger on me."
Fang Ying was speaking the truth seriously. Indeed, I had come here just to tease her, so I decided to let it go. If I were serious about it, there would be no way for her to avoid this.
"Alright then. Since that's the case, we can at least go out and have some fun nearby, right? We can go and come back the same day."
I said to Fang Ying with a smile. That was enough for me. If we went out to play, I would have Fang Ying bring Zheng Yu along. My acquaintance with Zheng Yu was through Fang Ying, and I told her that this guy was pretty good; I needed an assistant and asked her to transfer Zheng Yu over to help me out. Fang Ying would definitely not refuse.
When Fang Ying heard that we were going out nearby and could return the same day, she had no reason to decline and agreed. Then I told her that she was right; if I went out to play, I shouldn’t let Lu Laoye know. I said I wouldn’t bring any attendants and let Fang Ying take care of it.
Naturally, Fang Ying agreed after hearing that. Then I asked her who she would bring along, insisting on someone honest and not too talkative. She told me it would be her subordinate from the South District Boss and assured me that this person was very tight-lipped and wouldn’t blabber.
And so it was settled.
The next day, I drove my flashy little sports car with Fang Ying to a nearby water park for some fun. Zheng Yu followed behind with a few bodyguards for our safety while also playing the role of a gopher.
While we were out having fun, there were plenty of opportunities for me to chat privately with Zheng Yu. For example, when Fang Ying went to the restroom, I called Zheng Yu aside. Unscrewing a bottle of water and taking a sip, I smiled at him and said, "Do you remember Xiang Dong?"
"What?"
Zheng Yu looked shocked when he heard my former name. The name Xiang Dong had become somewhat taboo in Tian Ye Group; who would dare mention it? Zheng Yu surely didn’t know what I was up to.
"I am Xiang Dong," I said flatly.
Zheng Yu was instantly stunned.
"Yan Shao Ye, what are you talking about? Xiang Dong is a traitor from Tian Ye Group! He escaped abroad!"
"Can't you come back anymore? My police friend?"
I smiled at Zheng Yu, who was momentarily taken aback. His identity as a police officer was still unknown to most people. Zheng Yu was a competent undercover agent, always cautious. Aside from the signals he had given me, no one else was aware of his true identity.
I knew many things—Jinshan Jiao, Molly, and the Golden Mountain Arena. I was that crazy person who had saved Wang Jia Ye Sun so they could live alongside Lu Ying. By the way, how is Lu Ying doing now?
I asked Zheng Yu with a smile. The fact that I could mention so many secrets about Xiang Dong was enough to prove my own identity. However, when I brought up Lu Ying, I noticed Zheng Yu's face darken.
"Let's talk about this later. What are your plans now?" Zheng Yu asked me. I frowned at once; could it be that something had happened to Lu Ying?
I glanced at Fang Ying as she returned from the restroom. I knew this wasn’t the right time to discuss such matters. I told Zheng Yu, "In a bit, I'll tell Fang Ying that I'm short-staffed and ask her to transfer you to my team."
"Okay."
Zheng Yu replied with a nod and stepped aside just as Fang Ying approached us.
"How's it going, Yan Shao? This place isn't bad, right?"
Fang Ying asked cheerfully. I responded that it was fine, but my heart remained unsettled. Had something indeed happened to Lu Ying?
I kept wondering and guessing, filled with fear. I truly didn’t want anything unfortunate to happen to that girl; she was a good person who deserved a good life.
So throughout the day’s festivities, I lacked any real enthusiasm. After spending most of the day with Fang Ying, I finally said to her, "Fang Ying, you know what my situation is here. The people from Tian Ye Group and Enforcement Hall are just faces to me; they aren't trustworthy. Plus, everyone I brought along is under my brother’s command, which complicates things further. I’d like to request someone from you—surely you won’t refuse?"
I smiled at Fang Ying as I asked. She looked momentarily stunned before breaking into laughter.
"How could I refuse? The Tian Ye Group belongs to your Lu Family! Whatever you need, Yan Shao Ye, just say the word."
I nodded in satisfaction and pointed at Zheng Yu behind me. "This person will do. I've looked over his information and met him today; he seems quite capable. I believe he’ll fit in well."
I said with a grin. Fang Ying's expression shifted slightly; she clearly felt a pang of regret. Initially, she had no trusted subordinates and had first nurtured me. After my incident with Jinshan Jiao, she trained Liu Zi instead. Then when I returned, she focused on me again until my troubles arose once more; now it seemed she had invested in Zheng Yu.
And now? Just like that, her reliable subordinate—possibly her only trusted aide—was being taken away by me. How could she not feel heartbroken?
"Oh, Zheng Yu! His abilities are indeed impressive; he’s reliable in both work and conduct," Fang Ying remarked with a chuckle.
I smiled and nodded in agreement before saying, "Of course! It’s truly hard for Fang Zhu Master to part with him! By the way, you haven’t officially agreed yet; you won’t refuse me, will you?"
I asked playfully as Fang Ying quickly waved her hands in response.
"No way! How could I refuse Yan Shao Ye’s request? If you need someone, take him!"
After saying this, she turned to Zheng Yu and added with a grin: "Zheng Yu, once you follow Yan Shao Ye, make sure to work hard! Working under Yan Shao Ye will offer far more opportunities than working with me ever could! When you rise to success, don’t forget your former boss!"
Zheng Yu listened and still wore that cold expression, smiling slightly as he nodded and said, "Master Fang Zhu, don't worry. If I do well in the future, I will definitely repay you for the care you've given me during this time."
