Wei Jian was much like the information suggested—a man who knew how to adapt to the winds of change. When I sent my subordinate to bring him back, he was terrified, looking at me as if a mouse had spotted a cat.
His fear of me meant that he would do whatever I said.
I didn’t bring you here for any other reason, I told him. I need you to relay a message back to Ning Xia’s leader. You’ve seen the conflict between Du Tao and me; you know how Du Tao treats me. I trust you’re not foolish enough to choose the wrong side.
With a cold smile on my face, I turned to Wei Jian and asked if he understood. The situation had evolved, and now everything seemed straightforward.
The way I dealt with Cai Lang was decisive, and slapping Du Tao in the face served another purpose: I wanted everyone to see that Xiang Dong was opposing Du Tao, and that Du Tao couldn’t do anything about it. This is what we call authority; it instills fear in them so they dare not defy my words.
“I understand! I will follow your lead, Master Xiang!” Wei Jian quickly replied. Satisfied with his response, I made it clear that Ning Xia’s headquarters would follow my orders. I instructed him to return immediately and convey this message to Ning Xia’s leader. If anyone disagreed, I told Wei Jian to report back to me, and I would handle it.
Wei Jian assured me there would be no problem. With my formidable Enforcement Hall backing him, he found this task quite manageable; anyone who opposed him could simply be dealt with by the Enforcement Hall.
After finishing these matters with Wei Jian, I let him leave. Shortly after his departure, Lu Ying sought me out again. This time, she dramatically reenacted a scene where my ex-girlfriend came looking for trouble.
In the end, she presented me with a task.
“The Hongmen needs you to steal something very important from Du Tao’s office—evidence of drug dealings between Tian Ye Group and Jinshan Jiao,” Lu Ying informed me.
I frowned at her words. Evidence of drug dealings between Tian Ye Group and Jinshan Jiao? If true, this could be advantageous; it would allow me to take down Du Tao directly!
Although the drugs Molly were under Tian Ye Group’s purview, they had assigned a specialist to handle this matter. While I had access to that specialist’s drug evidence, there was no direct evidence implicating Tian Ye Group in drug dealings.
Tian Ye Group had been very cautious in this operation; they always worked through designated personnel and never directly involved themselves with the group. Why would Du Tao keep such evidence?
“Is this information reliable?” I asked, furrowing my brow.
Lu Ying nodded affirmatively. “It is reliable.”
“How does your police force view this situation? Don’t you find it somewhat suspicious?” I inquired further. Setting aside whether Du Tao truly left behind evidence, how did Hongmen know there was evidence of drug dealings in Du Tao’s office?
“How did they find out?”
Lu Ying explained that Hongmen claimed they had undercover agents within Qing Gang who were very discreet. This information came from their undercover operatives in Qing Gang. If they found evidence of drug dealings in Du Tao’s office, it would spell disaster for both Du Tao and Tian Ye Group; Qing Gang would lose a significant ally!
“Hongmen has undercover agents in Qing Gang?” It sounded plausible, but something felt off. Just days ago, Hongmen had been urging me to help suppress Qing Gang on Du Tao’s behalf—why the sudden shift?
Were they trying to bring down Du Tao?
If they really have this undercover information, then they must have known about the evidence long ago. Why are they only bringing it up now?
I shared my doubts with Lu Ying, but she told me, "You're overthinking it. Maybe the evidence just arrived at Du Tao's office. This isn't that complicated. Hongmen is on our side, and they want Qing Gang to be weakened just as much as we do."
After hearing her, I nodded in agreement. That made sense; after all, Qing Gang was Hongmen's rival. Perhaps I was indeed overthinking things, just as Lu Ying suggested.
Lu Ying then informed me that the evidence was in Du Tao's office safe and even provided me with the code and the key to the safe. Once I obtained the evidence, they would immediately arrest Du Tao and eliminate him without letting anyone see him. Du Tao wouldn't have a chance to implicate me.
The security level of Du Tao's office was extremely high; ordinary people couldn't get in. If I wanted to retrieve the evidence from his safe, I would have to do it personally and find a way to distract Du Tao long enough to access the safe.
I quickly calculated that I would need about thirty seconds to open the safe, which meant I only needed to distract Du Tao for three minutes. However, given our relationship, it was unlikely that he would leave me alone. He would definitely be watching me closely, mocking me, and arguing with me—there was no way he would just walk away.
At that moment, I thought of my personal bodyguard, Yue Qing. Perhaps she was the only one who could help.
I accepted the key to the safe and told Lu Ying about my plan. After she left, I called Yue Qing over from the room next door. This time, having her as my bodyguard was much less bothersome than before; she quietly followed me wherever I went. While I was at the Enforcement Hall headquarters, she stayed quietly in the room next door.
Once Yue Qing arrived, I asked her if she could help me distract Du Tao for two minutes based on her understanding of him.
"Why do you need to go there?" Yue Qing asked coldly, clearly displeased.
I smiled helplessly; there were certain things I couldn't explain to her directly, but I could give her a rough idea of what I needed.
"I want to steal something from Du Tao. If he loses it, he'll be very upset," I said with a grin.
Yue Qing paused for a moment before laughing, clearly satisfied with my explanation. If I was causing trouble for Du Tao, she would be more than willing to assist.
"Is it okay no matter what? As long as it helps you buy two minutes?" she asked playfully.
I nodded and replied, "Yes, anything works."
Yue Qing happily agreed and seemed excited to join me in causing trouble for Du Tao.
As a member of the Enforcement Hall, it wasn't difficult for me to find Du Tao; however, since I was there to steal something, it was best if fewer people knew about it. Therefore, I only brought Yue Qing along.
Before long, I found myself standing in front of Du Tao's office door. Without knocking, I pushed the door open and walked straight in.
"Du Zong! What are you doing?" I said cheerfully.
Du Tao looked surprised to see both me and Yue Qing enter his office. His expression quickly shifted to one of anger; his eyes blazed with fury as if I'd just killed his father!
"What are you doing here?" he demanded.
Du Tao asked coldly.
I chuckled and casually replied, "Just came to see you."
I comfortably settled down on the sofa.
What the hell, am I here to see you? You idiot, and you brought this silly girl along. So, how does it feel to play with leftovers, huh, Xiang Dong?
Du Tao looked at me with a mocking expression and asked.
I frowned immediately.
I have a purely platonic friendship with Yue Qing!
But before I could say anything, Yue Qing sprang into action. True to her reputation as a skilled assassin, she moved swiftly, darting right in front of Du Tao. She grabbed his collar and delivered a powerful punch straight to his jaw!
With her other hand, she pulled out a tissue and shoved it into Du Tao's mouth at lightning speed!
Du Tao didn’t even have time to scream.
Oh my goodness, my dear lady is about to show you what the end of the world really looks like!
Yue Qing coldly held onto Du Tao, who was struggling with both hands. A cruel smile crept onto her lips as she prepared to give him a good beating.
Damn it!
I like this!
Yue Qing then dragged Du Tao over to the bookshelf. I knew there was a storage room inside; she intended to pull him in there for a good thrashing.
Yes, even if you screamed your lungs out in there, no one would hear you, right?
And I would have plenty of time to slowly open Du Tao's safe and take whatever was inside.
Yue Qing skillfully opened the door to the storage room and pulled Du Tao inside. The door closed behind them—just that simple, just that straightforward.
But there was a hint of dominance in her actions; no one else mattered.
Meanwhile, I took my time retrieving the key to the safe and approached Du Tao's safe. After entering the code, I gently turned the key.
With a crisp click! The safe door swung open. I peered inside and was taken aback by what I saw—cash in dollars, gold, jewelry, and a bag!
I picked out some jewelry that looked quite valuable and stuffed it into my pocket before grabbing the bag.
It had some writing on it.
