"Xiang Dong! Get a grip! You still have a lot of feelings to sort out!"
Zheng Yu suddenly grabbed my collar, and I was momentarily stunned.
"Damn it! I just had a breakup. I’m not drinking, and I’m not wallowing in self-pity. Can’t I just sit here for a while? My wife just left home!"
"Are you looking for a fight?"
I pushed Zheng Yu away, furious. He immediately took off his jacket and shouted back at me, "Let’s do this!"
Damn it! If we’re fighting, then let’s fight!
I threw a punch at Zheng Yu’s jaw, and the guy didn’t even try to dodge.
"This punch is a gift; the next one won’t be!"
Zheng Yu let out a fierce shout as I charged at him. This was the first time I had seen him throw a punch after knowing him for so long, and it was directed at me!
He hit me!
I wasn’t going to hold back either. We started fighting in the deserted street under the dim streetlights. There were no techniques involved—just punches and kicks flying everywhere!
Maybe for a man, there’s nothing more satisfying than having an all-out brawl when feeling frustrated; it beats drinking any day, but only if you don’t end up on the losing side.
Half an hour later, Zheng Yu and I lay on the empty road; he couldn’t keep up with me.
"Alright, Dong Ge, you’ve got some skills."
Zheng Yu lay beside me, panting heavily. He wasn’t bad himself; he could probably take on five big guys alone without breaking a sweat, but I was stronger—mainly because I was angrier and needed to vent. My moves were sharper and more reckless than his.
Not too shabby.
I lay there; although Zheng Yu was worse off than me, I had taken quite a few hits from him as well. We both held back enough not to hit each other in the face—after all, we were brothers at heart.
"Dong Ge, let me say something without you getting upset: even though your wife is gone, for the sake of our brotherhood, you need to stick around and do what you’re supposed to do."
Zheng Yu said this beside me, and I couldn’t help but smile.
I knew exactly why Zheng Yu was angry when he exploded earlier. It was all because of that letter from Linna telling me not to seek revenge for her anymore. With me around, Zheng Yu would have a better chance of completing his mission. If I left now, he wouldn’t stand a chance against Tian Ye Group alone.
"You’re overthinking it. Once the arrow is shot, there’s no turning back. Do you think Underworld is that easy to deal with?"
I chuckled and replied, "If I quit Tian Ye Group now, within a month, Qian Cun Jin or Liu Hao would have me assassinated—along with my brothers; none of them would have a good ending."
But I never thought about quitting. Even if Linna left me, I would still seek revenge! This wasn’t just for her; it was also for the mission that had awakened within me!
Like Zheng Yu, I was an undercover cop too!
"Well then, seeing how you just acted, I must admit I was quite surprised; this is how you should be."
Zheng Yu smiled at me, and I returned his smile without saying anything further as I sat up.
"Do you need me to keep you company for a drink?"
Zheng Yu asked me. I shook my head and replied, "No need for that, but there’s something else I need you to do."
"What is it? You tell me, Dong Ge."
I must find Linna!
Late at night, I didn’t go home and checked into a nearby hotel. Linna’s departure hit me hard, but at this moment, I could only avoid thinking about it. I had many other matters to face, and soon I would be leaving for Jinshan Jiao; I couldn’t afford any delays. So, I entrusted the search for Linna to Zheng Yu. I told him to help me explain things to her when he found her. I hoped that when I returned from Jinshan Jiao, I would see my Linna again.
Though I tried my best not to dwell on Linna’s leaving, I still couldn’t sleep that night; her image stubbornly lingered in my mind.
The next morning, I took a cold shower in the bathroom, which helped me feel a bit more awake. Just one more day until my departure. Today, I had many tasks to complete; I needed to prepare for tomorrow’s actions and select the personnel for this trip.
After my shower, I headed to the Security Company. I had only informed Zheng Yu about Linna’s disappearance; there was no need to tell anyone else. But as soon as I arrived at the Security Company, more trouble struck!
Dong Ge, Fei Ge got into a car accident last night after drinking too much.
A young man walked into my office to inform me. I was taken aback. What? Is it serious?
It seemed like bad luck was piling up!
It’s not serious; he just broke a rib and will need some time to recover. Since it’s not severe, Fei Ge didn’t want us to disturb you in the middle of the night.
The young man explained. After hearing this, I responded with a grunt and waved him away, letting out a helpless sigh. Just as I was about to leave town, so many things were happening! This was truly frustrating!
I pulled out my phone and called Liu Zi. Liu Sen was in jail, Wan Fei had an accident, and Zheng Yu was on guard duty—there was no one left but Liu Zi to accompany me.
Liu Zi, come to my office.
Once the call connected, I told Liu Zi what was going on. He acknowledged and arrived at my office ten minutes later.
What’s up, Dong Ge?
Liu Zi asked with a smile as he sat across from me. You know Liu Sen is in here, right?
Yeah, I know. I suspect Liu Hao is behind this.
Liu Zi nodded thoughtfully. I smiled without responding; perhaps he was right.
Liu Sen can’t join me for Jinshan Jiao anymore. You need to find a few capable brothers from White Tiger Hall to come with me; plans are still plans.
I instructed Liu Zi. He nodded in agreement and said he would start selecting people right away.
After Liu Zi left, Zheng Yu arrived.
Dong Ge, Wan Fei also had an incident last night.
Zheng Yu asked about Wan Fei as soon as he entered. I nodded in acknowledgment. Then Zheng Yu said, Could it be too coincidental?
"Yes."
I nodded.
The other party clearly knew that you would let me take care of things at home, so they set up a trap for Liu Sen and even sent Wan Fei to the hospital. It seems they want Liu Zi to step in?
Zheng Yu frowned and asked.
"Maybe."
I smiled slightly, knowing that Liu Zi was the South District Boss. If I led the team this time, all the credit would be mine; if Liu Zi took charge, then half of the credit would definitely go to him. That was their intention.
"What about Dong Ge? Are we really going to go along with their wishes?"
Zheng Yu asked with a frown.
"So what if we do? The higher-ups want to promote me; they just need an excuse. I want to see who will jump out and claim that the credit for this operation should go to Liu Zi when I return!"
I gritted my teeth and said, "Damn it! If it weren't for that fake Lu Ying being kidnapped, how could Linna have left me? Just let me catch that person; otherwise, I swear I'll make him pay!"
"Well, that's true. After all, Dong Ge, you still need someone to back you up for this mission. Even if the credit is split, Fang Ying will find a way to make it up to you."
Zheng Yu nodded. I smiled without saying anything and took out my phone to dial Fang Ying's number.
I needed to explain everything to Fang Ying.
"What? There's such a situation?"
I told Fang Ying that before I left, one of my two top subordinates ended up in jail while the other went to the hospital. Fang Ying was immediately shocked and asked me,
"Xiang Dong, you’re not regretting agreeing to find an excuse for me, are you? That would be problematic."
Fang Ying said coldly. I chuckled and replied, "How could that be, Fang Zhu Master? I have other people I can bring along; I'm planning to take Liu Zi with me. The reason I'm calling is just to let you know that my subordinate Zheng Yu has been ill recently, so bringing Liu Zi is unavoidable. I believe when we return from this operation, someone will definitely use Liu Zi's identity to claim the credit that was assigned to me."
"I understand now. If that's the case, then you don't need to worry. If I want to promote you, no one can stop it. So go ahead and take Liu Zi; I'm curious who will jump out and say something about this!"
Fang Ying said immediately. I smiled because that was exactly what I wanted to hear from her! I agreed right away, and then Fang Ying added that I could leave with peace of mind; she would keep an eye on things in the Southern District, and no one could do anything against me there.
That was reassuring.
I had been worried that Zheng Yu might struggle alone while watching over things at home, but with Fang Ying involved, those troublesome characters would be powerless against my Southern District!
After finishing my conversation with Fang Ying, I hung up the phone. At that moment, Zheng Yu spoke up again.
"Dong Ge, this morning Lu Ying called me asking about you. I also mentioned that your sister-in-law left home; she wanted me to convey her apologies."
