I bought a Guide for over 190,000. I didn't do anything else that day; by the afternoon, I had completed all the paperwork for the car, including getting the license plates.
"Hey, this car looks good!" Liu Sen remarked as he sized up my new black Guide after I finished buying it.
It should have been even better. I sighed helplessly; this car wasn’t even worth half of Linna's handbag. I had to admit that Linna was decent enough to send me a text after spending all her money. The message read: "You don’t need to be rich!" Was she worried that I would go astray if I had money?
What could I say? Oh well, let her think what she wants.
"Huh?" Liu Sen looked puzzled by my reaction, but I didn’t explain further. Seeing that it was about time, I took Liu Sen to buy some ropes and spent a few thousand on gifts for Xiong Li. Afterward, I drove to the building where Xiong Li lived.
I put my phone on vibrate and told Liu Sen. He nodded in agreement, and we split up; I headed to Xiong Li's apartment while he went upstairs to wait for me to send down the bag.
As night fell, I carried the deer whip and other supplements I bought for Xiong Li up the stairs. Upon entering his home, I saw a beautiful woman sitting on the sofa; she must be one of Xiong Li's mistresses.
"Ha! You’re here, brother! Come in!" Xiong Li greeted me with a hearty laugh as he walked out from inside, much more warmly than when I visited last time. Today marked the last day of my single life activities, and in the past six days, his revenue had reached an astonishing fifty million! He was looking at me with newfound respect.
"Hey, this is just a small gift for you," I said with a smile as I placed the items aside.
"You're too polite! Come on in!" Xiong Li chuckled and sat down on the sofa, waving at the woman who obediently went into another room.
"Brother, did you come to see me for something?" After I settled onto the sofa, Xiong Li asked with a smile. I chuckled and replied, "Nothing much. You've always taken good care of me; I just thought I'd come by to see you."
I laughed again. In this undercover line of work, one has to say insincere things all the time; Xiong Li hadn’t really done much for me at all.
Xiong Li laughed and said it was only natural. We then began chatting about what he previously mentioned—having me manage all his nightclubs. He asked for my thoughts on it.
What could my thoughts be? Just nonsense, really. I suggested that each general manager should receive monthly tasks with rewards for completion and penalties for failure. Then I elaborated on specific rewards and punishments, all made up on the spot just to amuse him. To my surprise, Xiong Li praised my ideas.
At that moment, I recalled Cao Minghui’s words: Xiong Li hadn’t even graduated elementary school; he was just a fool who could easily be manipulated.
But chatting alone wouldn’t solve anything. While we talked, I surveyed Xiong Li's apartment. His place had three bedrooms and a living room—one bedroom to the south and two to the north. Naturally, I needed access to one of the bedrooms; from there, I could bring in what I needed through the window and hide it away.
The woman had gone into one of the northern bedrooms; if I wanted to enter one myself, I'd have to choose the southern bedroom since there was only one there. As long as I informed Liu Sen about going south, he would know how to lower the bag down using ropes.
However, before doing any of this, I'd need to distract Xiong Li long enough to buy myself some time. But how could I come up with a way to divert his attention?
"Brother, tonight I'll have your sister-in-law prepare some dishes. Just enjoy the meal, and since we get along so well, we should have a drink!" Xiong Li said with a smile. I readily agreed, thinking that with dinner and drinks, I would have more opportunities to distract Xiong Li and slip into his bedroom later.
However, I didn't expect that I wouldn't even have to wait for dinner; my chance came sooner than I thought. Xiong Li went inside to have his mistress cook, but to my surprise, she was shopping online. I could hear the woman inside playfully teasing Xiong Li, which meant he wouldn't be coming out anytime soon!
Perfect! I quickly sent a text to Liu Sen, asking him to pass my bag down from the southern window. Then I quietly made my way to the door of the southern bedroom and gently opened it.
But as soon as I opened the door, I was taken aback! There was a woman lying on the bed!
Zhang Mei?
What the hell! Xiong Li was living with two women at the same time? That startled me! But since Zhang Mei was sleeping and showed no signs of waking up, I quietly approached the window and opened it, spotting the bag Liu Sen had lowered for me.
I quickly grabbed the bag and tossed it under the bed just as I was about to leave!
"Is that you?"
What the hell! Zhang Mei had woken up!
"What are you doing here?" she exclaimed, looking completely bewildered. She seemed wide awake, showing no signs of just having woken up, but she must have indeed just stirred because of the noise from me tossing the bag under the bed.
"I... I'm here to see you!"
At this point, I had no way to explain myself other than saying I came to see her! This way, Zhang Mei wouldn’t dare tell Xiong Li about my sneaky entrance into the bedroom!
"What? To see me? How did you end up here? Where's my boyfriend?" Zhang Mei looked shocked, her expression one of sheer panic. If Xiong Li found out she was playing coy with me, she would be in serious trouble!
"Xiong Li? He's outside. Don't worry; even if Xiong Li is part of the Underworld, he can't stop my love for you!"
I deliberately tried to intimidate Zhang Mei. The more ambiguous I acted with her, the more scared she became. The more frightened she was, the less likely she would tell Xiong Li about this encounter!
"Love my ass! You need to get out of here and pretend you don't know me! Now!"
Zhang Mei hissed through gritted teeth. I could tell she was internally panicking, but that was exactly what kept me safe!
"Alright, I'm heading out," Zhang Mei said. I quietly slipped out, relieved that Xiong Li hadn't come out of the bedroom yet. I let out a sigh of relief; thankfully, I had reacted quickly. What would have happened otherwise?
Xiong Li chatted with that woman for a long time before finally coming out. After he emerged, the woman went to prepare dinner, and Xiong Li continued talking to me while Zhang Mei stayed in her room. I worried that if Zhang Mei hadn't been startled awake by the sound of me dropping the bag, what would she think if she saw me picking it up?
However, after more than half an hour, I noticed there was still no movement from Zhang Mei's room. I felt a bit better; even if she had noticed something, after I had scared her earlier, she probably wouldn't dare to speak up. She was likely afraid that Xiong Li would find out about her ambiguous relationship with me and would want to keep her distance.
When dinner was ready, Xiong Li called Zhang Mei out to eat. I deliberately observed her expression; she pretended to be calm but occasionally glanced at me without daring to make eye contact. To tease her a bit more, I gazed at her affectionately when Xiong Li wasn't looking, but all I received in return was a look of disdain instead of suspicion. This reassured me further; it seemed Zhang Mei had only been startled awake by the sound of the bag hitting the floor. If she had noticed the large bag of ice, her gaze towards me would have held some suspicion rather than just disgust.
Our subtle exchanges went unnoticed by Xiong Li and his other companion. During dinner, Xiong Li and I drank quite a bit, and through our conversation, Zhang Mei learned that I was one of Xiong Li's subordinates, which I could tell from her expression.
After finishing dinner and having consumed quite a bit of alcohol, I bid farewell to Xiong Li and left his house. Once downstairs, I got into my newly purchased car.
"How did it go, Dong Ge?" Liu Sen asked as I settled into the car.
"Good!" I exhaled deeply. As long as Zhang Mei didn't discover anything, that was fine. But we needed to act quickly; after all, in my haste, I had only tossed the bag under the bed without hiding it properly. If Cao Minghui didn't make a move soon and Xiong Li found it first, things could get complicated.
I then called Cao Minghui to inform him of everything that had happened. He was very pleased upon hearing the news and praised me, telling me that our boss would return tomorrow and we could take action then!
It was great to hear that things were moving forward smoothly. I felt relieved but hoped nothing unexpected would happen. After dropping Liu Sen off at his hotel, I returned home.
When I got back, Linna was still sitting on the sofa with a smile on her face as she watched TV. Glancing over, I noticed two beautifully crafted bags with the Chanel logo on the table; I knew they were the two expensive bags Linna had bought today.
"Welcome back! How did it go today?" Linna asked cheerfully.
"It went well," I replied.
I didn’t mention the little incident in between; if I did, it would inevitably lead to discussing my situation with Zhang Mei. She was too sensitive about such matters for me to share that with her.
"Oh, that's great! Now we just have to see what Cao Minghui can do to get rid of Xiong Li," Linna said with a grin.
I chuckled in agreement but felt oddly anxious. There was something unsettling about this situation; whether it was due to the incident with Zhang Mei or my collaboration with Cao Minghui that left me feeling uncertain. It just felt strange; this matter definitely wouldn’t be so simple.
Seeing me quiet and downcast, Linna raised an eyebrow and asked, "What's wrong? Are you upset because you spent some money today?"
"What?" I paused for a moment before laughing and saying, "Of course not!"
