Liu Fei walked ahead, while I trailed behind, accompanied by several attendants led by Xiao Huang. I couldn't help but wonder what was going on. If Liu Fei knew I had stolen his ledger, why did Xiao Huang suddenly seem favored after just one day? And where was the little knife? He had no idea about my theft; apart from Liu Zi, only Linna knew about it. 0

Bang! 0

As soon as I stepped into Liu Fei's office, before I could make sense of anything, Liu Fei kicked me down! The kick landed squarely in my stomach! It was brutal! I felt like my insides were about to rupture! Liu Fei shouted at the attendants who had followed him in. 0

"Get him!" 0

"Come on, brothers!" 0

Without further ado, Xiao Huang yelled and led his lackeys to start beating me. I covered my head and screamed! 0

"Liu Zong! What’s happening? Why are you hitting me?" 0

I called out, but at that moment, Xiao Huang, who was pummeling me, cursed back: "What’s wrong with you? How dare you ask that? You're too arrogant!" 0

Arrogant? 0

Xiao Huang and his gang didn’t stop their assault, and Liu Fei didn’t respond to my question either. He sat beside a woman, watching me get beaten as if it were a show. The woman occasionally mocked me with laughter, relishing my humiliation! 0

It wasn’t about the ledger being exposed. Otherwise, why would they call me arrogant? It seemed that Xiao Huang had suddenly gained favor for some reason! 0

He wasn’t even a woman; how could he just gain favor like that? I was utterly confused as I glanced at the woman beside Liu Fei. To my surprise, she bore a striking resemblance to Xiao Huang. 0

Damn! 0

If I still didn’t understand what was happening at this point, then I would truly be a fool. This woman must be Xiao Huang’s sister. She must have gotten involved with Liu Fei recently, and now Xiao Huang was riding high on that connection. Little Knife must have been dealt with before me; he hadn’t even called to warn me. Clearly, he had been thoroughly beaten up—enough that he couldn’t even make a phone call. 0

But what about Wang Meng? Where had he gone? 0

"Enough already, Huang. After all, this kid is Wang Meng's brother. If Wang Meng comes back and sees his brother beaten so badly, it won’t look good." 0

After about a minute of being pummeled, Liu Fei finally spoke up. Upon hearing him, it dawned on me that Wang Meng wasn’t around. Perhaps Liu Fei knew about my good relationship with Wang Meng but still needed to teach me a lesson. To avoid putting Wang Meng in a difficult position and to save face for everyone involved, he had sent Wang Meng away first to deal with me without repercussions—after all, Liu Fei was Wang Meng's superior; Wang Meng wouldn’t dare say anything upon returning. 0

"Yes, brother-in-law! Hehe, thanks so much for this! You have no idea how badly this kid has bullied me these past few days." 0

Xiao Huang obediently stopped his assault, looking like the perfect lackey. Although I was strong and could take a beating, those minutes of being attacked were no joke—especially from Xiao Huang! It had been a long time since I had taken such a severe beating. 0

"Ah, it’s nothing. This is our territory; the supervisor position will be yours in the future. That guy over there—Xiang Dong—right? Let’s forget about this incident for now; I’ll give your brother Wang Meng some face. From now on, you’ll just be an ordinary attendant; do your job well, got it?" 0

Liu Fei spoke indifferently as if he were a king! After hearing this, I got up from the ground and nodded in agreement. 0

"Okay, I understand." 0

At that moment, it wasn’t wise to argue back; if I did, I would surely get beaten again. 0

As for the matter of my supervisor position being revoked, I felt little about it. Tomorrow, I would meet Xiong Li, and once we reached an agreement, I would become the general manager! Everything I endured today would surely be repaid in double. 0

"Get lost." 0

Liu Fei's indifferent words felt like releasing a dog. I gritted my teeth and said nothing as I turned and walked out of Liu Fei's office. Once downstairs, I wanted to find out what had happened with Xiao Dao during my absence. However, after asking around, not a single staff member paid me any attention. 0

It was clear that the world was harsh, especially in a place like this. Now that Xiao Huang was the supervisor and had connections with General Manager Liu Fei, everyone knew about the feud between Xiao Huang and me. Who would dare to engage with me at this time? That would only invite trouble. 0

"Oh, isn't that Supervisor Wang? What's going on? Did someone beat you up?" 0

Just as I was gritting my teeth and enduring the pain while dragging myself along, Liu Li swaggered over to my side. Initially, I wanted to leave since I would meet Xiong Li tomorrow and become the general manager after our discussion. So whether I was absent from work didn't matter to me. But Xiao Huang had sent someone to keep an eye on me, making it impossible for me to escape. 0

"You don't need to worry about it." 0

I cast a faint glance at Liu Li. Was she so eager to come out and kick me while I was down? She had no idea how her expression would change once I became the general manager after negotiating with Xiong Li tomorrow. 0

"Well, maybe I'm just being nosy. Oh well, at least you're lucky; you still have Manager Wang backing you up. Liu Zong is giving Manager Wang face and didn't kill you. But your brother is in deep trouble; he was just showing off for two days and almost got beaten to death. Choosing the wrong master is truly pitiful." 0

Liu Li spoke with a smug expression, clearly enjoying my misfortune. My brows furrowed upon hearing this. Had Xiao Dao been severely beaten? 0

"What’s going on with Xiao Dao now?" 0

I asked in a low voice. After all, Xiao Dao was my friend! He got hurt because of me; I had asked him to keep an eye on Xiao Huang's work. Liu Li chuckled lightly and told me that he might be dying in the hospital—she didn’t know for sure—and then arrogantly turned away. 0

I gritted my teeth in anger! 0

But for now, I felt powerless! 0

"What are you doing? Clean the floor!" 0

I turned to leave but was stopped by the staff sent by Xiao Huang to watch over me. "I need to go to the restroom; do you want me to relieve myself in the lobby?" 0

The staff frowned immediately and scolded me a bit, urging me to hurry up and come back quickly. 0

Once in the restroom, I took out my phone and dialed Wang Meng's number. At this point, he was my only source of information about Xiao Dao's current situation. 0

"What? You got beaten up?" 0

Upon informing Wang Meng about what happened, he sounded shocked. I knew he wasn’t aware of the situation; if he had known, he would have informed me beforehand. 0

"Yes, Xiao Huang's sister is involved with Manager Liu Zong, and they beat me up." 0

I said flatly. Manager Wang paused again after hearing this before hurriedly responding, "Brother! Ugh! I didn’t know about this! Manager Liu sent me on a business trip early yesterday morning; I had no idea! This situation is really messed up!" 0

Manager Wang expressed his frustration sincerely. I understood that he genuinely felt regretful; this was beyond his control, and I didn’t intend to hold it against him. 0

I know Manager Wang, and I am really grateful to you. Without you, things could have been much worse for me. Right now, I just want to know how my brother, Xiao Dao, is doing. However, when I tried to ask the staff about him, they ignored me. I would like you to help me find out. 0

After hearing this, Manager Wang naturally didn’t refuse and repeatedly agreed. I hung up the phone and soon received a message from Wang Meng on my black card. He informed me that Xiang Dong had been beaten and explained what had happened, stating that he was unable to help. 0

I replied to him using the black card, assuring him that I would handle the situation myself. Wang Meng responded with a simple "okay," and I didn’t reply further. After a while, I received another message from Wang Meng containing Xiao Dao’s information: he was at People’s Hospital Second Branch, Room 307. 0

Taking a deep breath, I realized that I was on the first floor. I jumped out of the bathroom window; staying here today served no purpose. After my conversation with Xiong Li tomorrow, I would come back! 0

After leaving Tianchi, I took a taxi to People’s Hospital Second Branch and found Room 307. There lay Xiao Dao on the bed, his face bruised and swollen, still unconscious. 0

“Who are you?” A young nurse looked at me curiously, her gaze strange—perhaps my own injuries made me appear too unusual. 0

“I’m his friend. How is he?” I asked. The nurse responded with an “oh” and informed me that Xiao Dao’s injuries were quite severe; several of his ribs were broken, and his lung was injured as well. Fortunately, he had been brought in on time yesterday; otherwise, it could have been fatal. He had just undergone surgery and was still under the effects of anesthesia but should wake up soon. 0

“Oh, thank you.” I expressed my gratitude and then asked the nurse who had brought Xiao Dao to the hospital. She told me it was a few guys who looked like troublemakers and that they had already paid for his medical expenses. Realizing it must be Liu Fei and his crew, I understood—they may have beaten Xiao Dao but didn’t want to cause any fatalities; after all, it was just a small matter, and dealing with a death would be too troublesome. 0

“You’re hurt too; how about I take care of your wounds?” After inquiring about Xiao Dao’s condition, the nurse suggested. I glanced at Xiao Dao lying on the bed and sighed in relief—at least he wasn’t in critical danger—then followed the nurse to tend to my own injuries. 0

Once my wounds were treated, I returned to Xiao Dao’s room to rest for a while as I waited for him to wake up. Meanwhile, I thought about how Linna would surely be heartbroken upon seeing me in this state. I wondered how Xiao Dao’s family would feel when they saw him like this. 0

At two in the afternoon, Xiao Dao finally opened his eyes. 0

“Dong! Dong Ge!” He called out to me sleepily, instantly making me alert. 0

“Brother! How do you feel?” I asked him. Xiao Dao smiled faintly and said, “It’s nothing much. I wanted to let you know what happened, but I couldn’t hold on.” 0

Hearing this made me chuckle helplessly; clearly, Xiao Dao noticed my injuries and understood that I had also been through some trouble. Then I asked him what had happened during the day while I was away. 0
