Ling Xue responded without hesitation in her heart: Upgrade. Immediately, the system interface displayed that the system was upgrading, with progress and an estimated time of several hours.
Ling Xue furrowed her brow slightly; several hours was indeed a long time, but at least the most difficult predicament had been resolved. Meanwhile, the media were busy taking photos and conducting interviews, spreading the news of this significant event to let the world know about the heinous acts of this transnational human trafficking group. Surrounded by the crowd, Ling Xue appeared calm on the surface, but she was deep in thought about her next plans.
After all she had been through, she knew that there were still many dark corners in this world, and she might have more missions ahead of her. Once the system upgrade was complete, she would be able to continue fighting against those evil forces with even greater power.
The rescued individuals included soldiers on the warship recounting their tragic experiences, while others gazed into the distance as if they could hardly believe they had truly regained their freedom. The young women from Fusang Kingdom gradually began to smile, starting to dream of returning to a normal life.
The men from Fusang Kingdom who had once attempted to harm Ling Xue and her companions now lowered their heads, afraid to speak further. They understood how despicable their previous thoughts were in this atmosphere filled with justice.
Ling Xue stood on the deck of the warship as the sea breeze gently brushed against her cheeks. She silently awaited the completion of the system upgrade and looked forward to the new journey that lay ahead.
Fusang Kingdom took this incident very seriously and decided to award Ling Xue, a minister, with the Fusang Justice Medal. This reward was meant to be a high recognition and praise for Ling Xue's courageous actions.
However, when Ling Xue arrived at the award ceremony and saw the ruler of Fusang Kingdom, she realized that things were far from what she had imagined. The ruler's eyes were vacant, drool occasionally escaping from his mouth as he spoke incoherently, displaying signs of intellectual deficiency. He was surrounded by several sycophantic ministers who treated him like a puppet.
One of these ministers wore a broad smile and bent low to whisper in the Sovereign's ear, his expression making one feel nauseous. His eyes squinted with a calculating glint, as if everything was under his control.
Upon seeing Ling Xue, this minister immediately displayed a greedy expression and turned to the Sovereign: "Sovereign, this is Miss Nana Ko; look how beautiful she is! If you could make her your lover, it would truly be a great blessing."
The Sovereign chuckled foolishly, drool spilling again as he pointed at Ling Xue and stammered: "Beautiful lady, be my lover."
Another minister quickly chimed in: "Yes, Sovereign! If Miss Nana Ko were your lover, it would be an unparalleled honor for her. This would also be the greatest reward for her."
As he spoke, this minister rubbed his hands together incessantly as if anticipating some benefit.
Ling Xue was filled with anger and disgust. She straightened her back and looked firmly at the ruler of Fusang Kingdom, fearlessly saying: "Respected Sovereign, everything I have done is not for such an inappropriate reward. I acted solely to save those innocent people and fight for justice. Your proposal is an insult to me; I refuse to accept such a reward."
Yet the ruler remained relentless, revealing his greedy nature as he said: "Hmph! Don't be ungrateful. Being my lover means you will have endless wealth and glory."
Ling Xue scoffed coldly in response: "Sovereign, wealth and glory are not what I seek. I only hope for less evil in this world and more justice. Your actions have disappointed me regarding Fusang Kingdom."
At that moment, one of the ministers stepped forward in an attempt to persuade Ling Xue: "Miss Nana Ko, many people would beg for the Sovereign's proposal. You should feel honored."
The minister wore a false smile while his eyes hinted at a threat. Ling Xue glared at him and said: "Honor? You treat such immoral demands as rewards; it is nothing but a desecration of justice. I will not compromise or accept such arrangements."
With that said, Ling Xue turned to leave.
