Ling Xue felt a surge of excitement within her, believing this could be a crucial clue. She continued to probe, "Do you remember what the mysterious man looked like?"
Saki Yoshiko shook her head and replied, "Not really. I only remember he wore a hat and was dressed all in black, looking quite mysterious. Although he always seemed to be hiding something, you could tell he was quite handsome. When Nana Ko was with him, they looked like a couple. They would occasionally talk quietly outside the store, and Nana Ko's eyes were full of reliance on him. However, one time I thought I heard them arguing. Their voices weren't loud, but the tension was palpable. Nana Ko seemed agitated while the man kept his voice low, as if warning her about something. After that, Nana Ko became even more distracted."
Listening intently, Ling Xue pondered how this mysterious boyfriend must be connected to Nana Ko's disappearance. She asked, "Do you know how they met? Did they mention any special places or events?"
Saki Yoshiko strained to recall, "I'm not sure about their backstory. I only remember once Nana Ko mentioned a Seaside Cottage, but she didn't specify where it was or if it had anything to do with that man. At the time, I didn't think much of it, but now it seems like it might hold some clues."
Ling Xue silently noted this information, already formulating her next steps for investigation. After thanking Saki Yoshiko, she began to think about how to find that mysterious Seaside Cottage and delve deeper into the identity of this enigmatic boyfriend.
Deciding to start her investigation at the vegetarian restaurant where Nana Ko worked, Ling Xue entered Green Source Vegetarian Restaurant. The decor was simple yet elegant.
The owner was taken aback when she saw Ling Xue but quickly greeted her warmly: "Welcome! Oh my, you look just like Nana Ko! I almost mistook you for her."
Taking advantage of the moment, Ling Xue said, "I wanted to ask you about Ohashi Nanako. Can you tell me what she's usually like?"
The owner reminisced as she spoke: "Nana Ko has a unique style. Sometimes she dresses conservatively, but occasionally she'll wear outfits that accentuate her figure—though never too revealing. Her accent is just like that of local young people; it's standard without any noticeable foreign twang. Why do you suddenly ask about her?"
Ling Xue's heart raced at this revelation; it contrasted sharply with the revealing outfits she had found at Nana Ko's place. She replied casually, "I'm looking for her. I heard she mentioned a Seaside Cottage; do you know where that is?"
At that moment, a man dining nearby overheard and chimed in with a laugh: "Seaside Cottage? That's a paradise for men! It's filled with all sorts of lively characters and beautiful women. If you work there, you're bound to make good money. But someone like me who earns an honest living wouldn't go there."
The owner quickly interjected to smooth things over: "Sir, please don't say such things; we really don't know what kind of place that is. Young lady, I truly don't know where this Seaside Cottage is; Nana Ko never mentioned it to me."
Thanking both the owner and the man, Ling Xue couldn't help but wonder: What was Nana Ko doing at that Seaside Cottage?
From what she knew so far, her clothing style varied between conservative and figure-flattering outfits, yet the provocative clothing at her home hinted at something unusual. Was she involved in some sort of special service industry at the Seaside Cottage? But why would a music student from Shinkawa University find herself in such a situation? Ling Xue realized that to unravel the mystery of Nana Ko's disappearance, she needed to investigate the Seaside Cottage thoroughly and understand what Nana Ko had been doing there and the reasons behind it all.
