Ling Na listened to Liu Jiedong's words, feeling a mix of dissatisfaction and restraint for Ling Xue's sake. She replied coolly, "I hope Liu Zong keeps his word. Ling Xue has sacrificed so much for you; she deserves to be treated well." Liu Jiedong raised his chin slightly, exuding an air of arrogance. "I will naturally fulfill my promise. However, you must also understand your obligations tonight," he said with a smirk.
That evening, Ling Xue and Ling Na were filled with helplessness and conflict as they slowly approached Liu Jiedong's room, each step feeling extraordinarily heavy. Ling Xue's eyes reflected confusion and unease. She knew that once she took this step, she would be trapped in an endless predicament, but she had no choice if she wanted to complete her mission. Ling Na closely followed Ling Xue, her face equally marked by complex emotions. She made this decision for Ling Xue, torn between concern for her friend and uncertainty about the future.
As they pushed open the door to Liu Jiedong's room, a stifling atmosphere hit them. Liu Jiedong sat on the bed, his eyes glinting with a complicated light. He looked at Ling Xue and Ling Na, a smug smile creeping onto his lips. The two girls silently approached the bed, their bodies trembling slightly with fear. Yet they held back their anxiety, preparing to face what was to come.
In the darkness of that night, they felt as if they had lost themselves; the path ahead grew increasingly unclear, and they could only struggle forward through the endless haze of confusion. The morning sun streamed through the gaps in the curtains, failing to dispel the gloom in Ling Xue and Ling Na's hearts. After a night of turmoil, both were utterly exhausted, but Liu Jiedong seemed oblivious to their fatigue.
Ling Xue felt drained both physically and mentally; her eyes were filled with helplessness and pain. She wondered when this ordeal would end; it seemed she had sacrificed too much for that mission. Ling Na also showed signs of weariness; she endured all this for Ling Xue, her heart heavy with unspoken bitterness. Liu Jiedong remained completely unaware of their suffering, lost in his own world without regard for their feelings.
Ling Xue gritted her teeth, fighting back tears. She repeatedly questioned herself whether such sacrifices were truly worth it. Doubt crept into her mind about whether she could continue to persevere in completing that seemingly unattainable mission. Seeing Ling Xue's distress filled Ling Na with heartache, yet she felt powerless to help; all she could do was silently endure.
By noon, sunlight poured into the disheveled room through the window. Ling Na looked at Liu Jiedong and Ling Xue, anxiously urging them to hurry up and register their marriage. She understood that this was currently the only way to secure some protection for Ling Xue.
Liu Jiedong regarded Ling Xue and Ling Na with a complex expression—part pity, part satisfaction. He seemed somewhat pleased with his actions while perhaps feeling a twinge of sympathy for their plight. In that moment, he felt particularly cheerful and readily agreed to the marriage registration.
The three of them got into a car and headed toward the civil affairs bureau. Ling Xue sat in the driver's seat with a vacant expression as she mechanically maneuvered the steering wheel. Her heart was filled with confusion and helplessness; she had no idea where her future would lead her. Liu Jiedong sat in the back seat, continuing to immerse himself in his thoughts while Ling Na suppressed her disdain for his behavior for Ling Xue’s sake.
Upon arriving at the civil affairs bureau, a lawyer was already waiting there. The lawyer pulled out a prenuptial agreement and solemnly explained its contents to them. Liu Jiedong casually glanced over the agreement before signing his name without hesitation. As Ling Xue looked at that document, bitterness welled up inside her.
She knew that this agreement meant she would have almost no rights in this relationship; yet for the sake of completing her mission, she had no choice but to comply. After signing the agreement, they received their marriage certificate.
Ling Xue stared at the marriage certificate in her hand without a trace of joy—only an overwhelming heaviness weighed down on her heart. She had no idea what consequences this decision would bring her; retreat was not an option now—she could only brace herself and move forward.
The system prompted that the mission was complete, tightening the knot in Ling Xue's heart. It seemed she would have to continue living alongside Liu Jiedong for some time longer.
Liu Jiedong took Ling Xue and Ling Na to a luxurious villa community located at the border between Su City and Shencheng. The environment was beautiful and opulent. Liu Jiedong resided in the largest villa at the center of the community while his ex-wife Sun Dai lived next door with their children Liu Jiang and Liu Ting. Other villas housed Liu Jiedong’s numerous wives.
With pride radiating from him as he surveyed his many wives, Liu Jiedong declared loudly: "From today on, Ling Xue is a woman here; you all must listen to her."
One glamorous woman among his wives stepped forward indignantly and said, "On what grounds? She's just arrived; what right does she have to be called a woman?" Another chimed in supportively: "Exactly! We've been serving you here together for so long; how can she just come in and expect to take over?"
Liu Jiedong's expression darkened as he barked angrily: "My decision is not up for debate! Anyone who disobeys will be thrown out!"
At that moment, Sun Dai approached them calmly but with anger simmering in her eyes. "Liu Jiedong," she said firmly, "you've gone too far! What about our children? Are you really going to just cast us aside?"
Liu Jiedong said coldly, "The child is mine, and I will take good care of him. But you must move out."
Ling Xue looked at the chaotic scene before her, filled with fear and unease. She tugged at Liu Jiedong's sleeve and whispered, "How about we don't do this? I don't want to create so much conflict."
But Liu Jiedong shook off her hand. "What are you afraid of? With me here, no one dares to bully you."
Ling Na stood nearby, equally nervous and at a loss. She leaned closer to Ling Xue and said softly, "What are we going to do? Our lives are going to be difficult from now on."
Ling Xue slowly surveyed the room, carefully observing the two or three dozen people present. A wave of helplessness washed over her, and she sighed deeply.
She murmured to herself, "For now, we can only take it one step at a time; there really isn't a better way." The atmosphere around them felt tense, as the other wives and concubines huddled together, whispering among themselves. Their eyes occasionally darted toward Ling Xue and Ling Na, filled with hostility and discontent.
