The auction began, and the first item up for bid was a dual-glazed bowl from the Tang Dynasty. Bidders eagerly raised their paddles, and the price climbed steadily. However, Ling Xue was distracted, her attention entirely focused on waiting for the Peace County Mask.
Finally, the Peace County Mask made its appearance. The auctioneer introduced it: "This Peace County Mask has a long history and is of great collectible value. The starting bid is five hundred thousand." Immediately, bids started pouring in.
Five hundred fifty thousand.
Six hundred thousand. The price continued to rise.
Ling Xue fixed her gaze on the mask, calculating her bid in her mind.
Seven hundred thousand. A voice rang out.
Ling Xue gritted her teeth and raised her paddle, declaring loudly, "One million."
The room fell silent, all eyes turning to her.
The auctioneer scanned the crowd and asked, "Is there a higher bid?" Liu Jiedong examined the artifact description and muttered to himself, "The highest estimate for this mask is only seven hundred fifty thousand; seven hundred thousand should be its limit."
How could anyone bid one million? He couldn't help but scrutinize Ling Xue again.
After a moment of silence, the auctioneer brought down the gavel: "One million, sold! Congratulations to this lady."
Ling Xue let out a sigh of relief, a satisfied smile spreading across her face. After the auction concluded, Liu Jiedong developed a keen interest in Ling Xue.
Still basking in the joy of winning the Peace County Mask, Ling Xue's phone began to ring incessantly. Numerous people were trying to reach her, their voices coming through with various exclamations.
"Wow, you're amazing! That mask was truly worth what you paid for it!" exclaimed a stranger in awe.
"Congratulations, miss! Your vision and decisiveness are impressive," another voice chimed in.
Meanwhile, Liu Jiedong's feelings towards Ling Xue were more complex. He looked at her with admiration and intrigue. While he appreciated Ling Xue's boldness and passion for artifacts, he also felt a primal urge stirring within him as he observed this youthful and courageous girl radiating a unique charm that drew him closer.
Liu Jiedong approached Ling Xue with a smile and said, "Young lady, you really are impressive. That mask in your hands will surely be treasured."
Ling Xue paused slightly before responding politely, "Thank you for your compliment. I do cherish this mask; it holds special significance for me."
Liu Jiedong's gaze lingered on Ling Xue as he softly remarked, "You not only have courage but also a unique charm. I wonder if there will be another opportunity to see such an impressive performance from you in the future?"
Ling Xue sensed an underlying meaning in Liu Jiedong's words; her heart tightened slightly, but she maintained her composure and smiled as she replied, "Who can say what will happen in the future? However, I believe every encounter is a kind of fate."
Liu Jiedong laughed heartily and said, "Well said. Let's look forward to our next encounter then." With that, they exchanged contact information before parting ways.
