Ling Xue watched him anxiously, unsure of what the skill would bring. As time passed, Xing Ming slowly regained his composure, his eyes filled with a newfound intensity and determination.
“Ling Xue, I will always be by your side, no matter what happens,” Xing Ming's voice was firm and full of emotion. Ling Xue's heart tightened; she hadn't expected the effect of this skill to be so powerful. Looking at Xing Ming, she felt a mix of guilt and helplessness. She knew her actions were not virtuous, but she had no choice if she wanted to complete her mission.
Liu Jiang furrowed his brow. “Xing Ming, why put yourself through this? You can't force feelings.” He tried to persuade Xing Ming, but it was to no avail. “I know I can't control my heart,” Xing Ming replied, his gaze locked onto Ling Xue as if she were the only light in his world.
“Xing Ming, right now I only have Liu Jiang in my heart. If you still want to be friends with me, you need to suppress your feelings for me. That way we can still have fun like we used to. Otherwise, we might end up seeing each other less.”
Ling Xue's words fell like a stone into a still lake, creating ripples in Xing Ming's heart. He stared blankly at her, his eyes filled with pain and struggle.
“Ling Xue, I... I will try,” Xing Ming's voice was hoarse. He knew he had fallen too deeply for Ling Xue and didn't want to lose her as a friend. He fought to suppress his feelings, trying to return to their once-pure friendship.
Liu Jiang stood by, watching Xing Ming suffer and feeling a pang of sympathy. He understood that Xing Ming was a person who valued emotions deeply; seeing him in such a predicament made Liu Jiang feel helpless as well. “Xing Ming, none of us want to lose you as a friend. I hope you can truly let go so we can still be together like before.”
Xing Ming remained silent for a moment before taking a deep breath. “I will try, for the sake of our friendship.” A glimmer of determination shone in his eyes; despite the lingering pain in his heart, he resolved to control his feelings for the sake of their precious friendship.
At that moment, Ling Xue checked the interface again and saw that the mission could be completed. She quickly clicked on it.
Perhaps Ling Xue was unaware that she had completely immersed herself in the role of Ling Xue; she was almost replacing her own identity as Ling Yu.
During their return journey, the three remained silent. Liu Jiang no longer engaged in overly familiar behavior with Ling Xue. It was only then that Ling Xue opened the interface to see the rewards for this mission. A flicker of excitement surged within her; she felt that avoiding the system’s eradication for the sake of completing the mission was rather despicable. She thought about how she was clearly male yet found herself constantly thinking about Liu Jiang—every little moment they shared together on the basketball court felt sweet even when they kissed passionately without care for exposure. At times, she even considered that being a woman and marrying someone might not be such a bad choice.
Could it be that she would truly have to become a woman completely? If Liu Jiang and Xing Ming or Li Yu knew that she was a creature who could be both male and female, they would think she was strange. However, such a thing must never come to light.
