Ling Yu was completely overwhelmed by anger. He quickly moved to a dark corner, picked up the Butterfly Hairpin, and transformed. At that moment, Ling Xue arrived.
"System, can I reconnect with Xing Ming now?"
"Host, the mission is complete. It is not advisable for you to contact the mission target. The mission is generating a continuous flow of energy for this system to absorb. Ling Xue quickly headed towards the place where Xing Ming had just been. Unfortunately, he was no longer there. Ling Xue opened her phone and removed Xing Ming from her blocked contacts.
She dialed his number, and it rang until it connected. "Hello, Xing Ming? It's me, Ling Xue." Her voice sounded slightly anxious as she tried to mask her inner turmoil. There was a brief silence on the other end before Xing Ming's deep and calm voice responded, "Ling Xue, you finally decided to contact me."
At that moment, Ling Xue took a deep breath and slowly said, "There are so many things I want to say, but I don’t know where to start. Let’s meet and talk; it’s time to clarify some feelings."
"Okay, where?" A hint of anticipation mixed with nervousness came through in Xing Ming's voice.
Ling Xue looked out the window, took another deep breath, and replied, "Let’s meet at the school cafeteria where we first met."
"Alright, Ling Xue. I’ll wait for you there." Xing Ming hung up the phone, feeling both excited and anxious.
He arrived at the school cafeteria, and the familiar surroundings reminded him of all the moments he had shared with Ling Xue. Soon after, Ling Xue walked into the cafeteria. They sat across from each other, their gazes filled with complex emotions. In that moment, he knew that some feelings had to be faced and resolved.
Ling Xue's fingers unconsciously tapped on the table as her eyes wandered, trying to avoid meeting Xing Ming's gaze. Meanwhile, Xing Ming looked at her steadfastly; a hint of pain flickered in his eyes.
After a moment of silence, Ling Xue finally spoke up, her voice trembling slightly: "Xing Ming, I need to be honest with you about my relationship with Ling Yu."
Xing Ming nodded slightly and took a deep breath, preparing to listen to her explanation. "I know this is sudden and unfair for you," Ling Xue said with guilt flashing in her eyes as her tightly clasped hands trembled slightly beneath the table. "But I hope you can understand that my intentions were never to hurt you. Some circumstances were beyond my control."
Xing Ming remained silent, but the anticipation in his gaze gradually shifted to deep contemplation as he waited for Ling Xue to continue. He longed for the truth yet feared facing it.
"Ling Ming," she confessed, "I admit that Ling Yu and I are siblings. At first, I did want to lure you in so that my brother would have a chance with Liu Ting. But things didn’t go as planned; I never intended to develop real feelings for you. Everything exceeded my expectations. Now all I want is to face you honestly and hope you can forgive my ignorance and mistakes." Her voice was low but filled with sincere regret.
Xing Ming gazed at her as his inner conflict began to dissolve, replaced by an indescribable sense of relief. A faint smile appeared at the corners of his mouth as he said softly, "So that's how it is... What should I say? Your honesty surprised me but also revealed your sincerity. Perhaps we really need to give each other a chance—to understand and forgive."
His words carried a sense of tolerance and seemed to open a window for their future together. Hope flickered in Ling Xue's eyes as she slowly reached out her hand; Xing Ming instinctively took it in his own.
At that moment, the system's voice interrupted: "Host, I know this is an inconvenient time for me to interrupt, but a new mission has been issued; please consider carefully."
