Zuo Ci felt a twinge of dissatisfaction.
"You're really going to climb the ladder, huh?"
"Please, senior!" Zuo Ci said with a serious expression.
"Don't look so glum; it will bring you misfortune!"
The Old Celestial Master joked, "I want to invite you to Difu Mountain to compete on stage with foreign friends. This would be a good opportunity for you."
"There is an Evil Dragon on Difu Mountain that feeds on human flesh. It has successfully transformed into a dragon by harnessing the mountain's energy and now resides deep within the mountains. I hope you can slay the Evil Dragon!"
"Evil Dragon?" Zuo Ci frowned slightly.
Difu Mountain is located in the Luonan City area and is renowned as the crown jewel of Daoism's Thirty-Six Caves of Heaven. It also has another name: Zhongnan Mountain.
Since ancient times, Zhongnan Mountain has been the birthplace of Daoist sects. Legend has it that Zhou Daifu first built a hut here at Hangu Pass to observe the stars, which led to its name, Cao Lou Guan, later abbreviated to Louguan.
Laozi built a platform south of Louguan to teach Yin Xi, hence it was called Shuojing Platform; since it is located within Louguan, it is also referred to as Louguan Terrace.
The Luo Guan Ben Qi Zhuan states that this temple was the origin of this great teaching and the source of its rise. Following Louguan, during the early Yuanfeng period (before), due to a divine message heard at night from Taiyi, Taiyi Palace was established at Difu Mountain's Dahe Valley to worship the Taiyi Mountain God.
In the Guangxi Yuan Year, Daoists began residing in the palace. During the Southern and Northern Dynasties, Daoism developed significantly at Zhongnan Mountain, leading to its establishment during the Tang Li Dynasty. Daoism was officially recognized before Buddhism, reaching its peak during this time.
Prominent figures such as Chen Tuan, Lu Dongbin, Liu Haichan, and Zhang Wumeng practiced their teachings in Zhongnan Mountain. By the Jin and Yuan dynasties, Wang Yang and his disciples continued to establish and promote Quanzhen Dao, ushering in another peak for Daoism at Zhongnan Mountain. The connections between cause and effect are profound.
Zhongnan Mountain has long been known as the Taoist Ancestral Court within the Daoist Sect, where the Evil Dragon has taken root. The depths of Dao Xing are unfathomable.
"Why did the Old Celestial Master choose me?" Zuo Ci furrowed his brow. The Old Celestial Master was aware of his true identity; after all, he knew that Zuo Ci was the infamous Daoist Zuo. Why would he still want him in the Daoist Sect's ancestral court? It made no sense at all.
"Because you have another layer of identity!" the Old Celestial Master sighed. "Both you and I belong to Hua Xia Er Lang and Yan Huang Zi Sun. This Difu Mountain is the Arena for the Fights of Deviant Arts. You know that our country is the most powerful in suppressing Evil Practices and Evil Paths worldwide. This is a National Fortune Battle, and there are simply no Deviant Arts willing to come to our aid!"
Zuo Ci shrugged, noncommittal. It was a classic case of wanting the horse to run while not providing any grass to eat. Who would be willing to risk their lives for you?
"But you are different!" The Old Celestial Master looked at Zuo Ci and continued, "As far as I know, since you debuted, although those above have kept a close watch on you, they have never sent anyone to trouble you. It's not that they can't; it's that they won't. You know the reason yourself."
Zuo Ci chuckled, "To harvest leeks?"
The interplay of yin and yang is called Dao; yin exists within yang, not opposite to it. This is what is known as yin and yang, both governed by heavenly decree!
The Old Celestial Master sighed again, "I am not worried about the ten battles at Kunlun Mountain; it’s the ten battles at Difu Mountain that concern me. Although Lao Fu does not harbor much prejudice against Evil Practices, you also know that those in Deviant Arts are self-serving. Their actions are solely for self-preservation and profit.
This is both right and wrong. If the nation's fortune is like a great umbrella, then if the canopy is punctured by man-made means, it will lead to solitary yin not lasting long and solitary yang unable to thrive. If National Fortune declines, it will affect all living beings under this great umbrella, regardless of whether they are righteous or evil!
The Old Celestial Master had said so much, yet it was not the answer Zuo Ci wanted to hear. To be honest, how the nation fares is something for you all to worry about. As for us, we just need to get by; when will saving all living beings require a Deviant Arts practitioner to bear that burden?
Zuo Ci shook his head and said, "Isn't it said that those who cultivate together should seek harmony and blend with the dust? The essence of the Dao is to conceal one's sharpness and merge with the mundane. In this world, it is not my concern!"
He held up an artifact that seemed to belong to the Master of Deviant Arts.
The Old Celestial Master extended a finger and added, "Moreover, if you can slay the Evil Dragon and fend off the invaders during the battle at Difu Mountain, I promise that as long as you do not cross the red line, you can walk freely in Huaxia Territory!"
Zuo Ci's pupils slightly constricted.
The artifact of the Master of Deviant Arts?
This was even more tempting than the conditions laid out before him.
"Old Celestial Master, let’s discuss this in detail!" Zuo Ci smiled.
"You rascal," the Old Celestial Master paused for a moment before chuckling, "This is interesting!"
